A reader has forwarded to us a YouTube gem involving an on-air cat fight of sorts between FOX’s Joe Buck and sideline reporter Pam Oliver.
What’s that, you say? A cat fight is only a cat fight if it occurs between two women? So . . . what’s your point? (Joe, we’re kidding. We love you. In a manly way. Heck, we’ve even got She Blinded Me With Science on our iPod.)
Anyway, Oliver reported during the Giants-Rams game that the mood on the St. Louis bench is poor. And then, after the toss back to the booth, Buck dredges up similar comments Oliver allegedly made about the Giants during Week Two of the 2007 season.
Oliver and Buck then disagree that Oliver made such comments in 2007.
“That’s not right,” Oliver says after Buck brought it up.
“It is right, Pam,” Buck later says while explaining his broader point.
Considering the full context of Buck’s remarks, it really wasn’t a slam against Oliver. But Oliver, who has flashed a little on-air temper in the past, seemed to take it that way.
Anyway, here’s the clip.

Joe Buck sucks, he’s sooo biased and constantly injects his opinion into every little incident. That’s what the color commentator is for. I really can’t stand that from the play-by-play man and he’s the worst at it. Buck needs to stick to baseball… Of course, Aikman sucks too since the only thing he gives a damn about are the Cowboys. I hate watching a game with those 2 morons in the booth. How about a little objectivity?

If she’s gonna get upset about that I wonder who I should believe when McNabb and her got in an argument about what was said last year between them.

Theres something going on there between Buck and Oliver. I think it was the Chicago/San Fran preseason game, they showed Pam using the camera on field and Buck was quick to say “She can’t do that, she could get fired for that. We all know she can do that.” All on air like he was trying to get her in trouble. Buck is wack

Both Kolber and Oliver seem to be getting fed up with the patronizing bullshit constantly raining down on them from the supersized egos in the broadcast booth. Can’t say I blame them. As a relatively well-informed NFL fan, I’m also getting pretty tired of the patronizing ego-centric bullshit coming out of the broadcast booth.
Though they may have been airhead eye-candy originally, the girls know their shit now. I’d like to see both Kolber and Oliver (and Siragusa, for that matter) do play-by-play out of the booth for a game or two. But they’d probably be better than the much-more-highly-paid guys who are doing that now, so the networks won’t dare allow it.

I’m a Packer fan, I was watching that game. Pam was pointing out after the Packers scored 21 points in the 4th quarter against the Giants, the mood on the sidelines was just dead. Why would she get all giddy?

Joe Buck comes across as an arrogant prick on-air. It amazes me that Fox thinks that a sport’s fan base with such blue collar roots wouldn’t be 100% turned off by Mr. My Shit Doesn’t Stink.

Buck’s point wasn’t to slight her, it was that she said the same thing about another team that went on to crush other teams and win a SB. She just went superbitch instantly without thinking about it. If all she had said was that they were down on the sidelines, that’s different. But she said the team was quick to tumble (twice), which is criticizing the team’s character, not the current mood.
Some people need work on the brain-to-mouth thing.

I don’t think I have ever considered Kolber eye candy. She reminds me of my lady high school gym teacher many years ago. Whenever she would walk, her legs would make that sound like Costanza’s suit pants whenever he would walk. Unfortunately, that gym teacher was just wearing shorts and the noise was just the friction of her hairy legs. She was also sporting a five o’clock shadow. I will admit that since Kolber got knocked up and had a kid, she does look a lot more feminine, man hands and all.
As for Oliver, IMO she is starting to look like one of the Oompa Loompa’s. She needs to eat a salad or two.

I am with MaineMan. I find it close to impossible to listen to any of them. Since I am from Philly, I stopped listening to madden a long time ago since he hates the city and the Eagles. And the sideline reports are worthless.

This may be my man ears hearing another man’s words and using my man eye’s seeing a man’s perspective, but Buck was simply harkening (thanks Tiki) back to how rocky the Giant’s season was early last year, and Pam Oliver witnessed it first-hand and could expand on it, only to see them rebound and make an unlikely Super Bowl run.
He was doing what most professional media members do and try to engage the deeper story and perhaps offer some hope for the St. Louis season. I’m not really sure why Oliver’s reaction was so strong. Buck - while I don’t necessarily think he’s all that great - wasn’t saying anything inappropriate or particularly upsetting.

Joe Buck is that girly/sissy man that is full of himself. He is great on baseball, because I don’t watch it. FOX would be well served to can his work on the NFL telecasts, maybe down to the 5th team announcers. That is about where he belongs. Put Troy with a winner.

Look up blowhard on Wikepedia and there is Joe Buck’s picture. Pam Oliver is the best of the sideline reporters. She was also an athlete and brings that perspective to her reporting. She deserves better.

Now, I think Joe Buck sucks as much as anyone, but if Oliver get all butthurt about that comment, then its on her. He didn’t say LOL YOU R RONG!!11 LOL!11, he just pointed out that she said the same thing about the Giants last year and look where they were able to pull themselves to. Not a big deal,
