Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com reports that the Saints have given coach Sean Payton a new five-year deal.
Payton is in his third year with the team. He led the Saints to the NFC title game in his first year on the job.
Hopefully, Payton’s new deal will give him the kind of security that will stop an aging process that has Payton looking less like Malcolm In The Middle and more like Montgomery Burns.

Given the Saints’ uneven 2007 season (and Payton’s questionable playcalling), shouldn’t Benson have waited until after this season to give Payton a big extension?

If past tradition is any indicator, Payton will be fired at year’s end. Such was the fate of Ditka and Haslett after they signed extensions.
And I’m glad that I’m not the only one who has noticed that Payton seems to be aging rapidly - much like Rasputin at the end of the cartoon version of Anastasia. At this pace, he will be a pile of dried bones by the bye week.
