The New England Patriots flew free agent quarterbacks Chris Simms and Tim Rattay to Boston today, with the expectation that they would work out and possibly fill a spot on the team’s suddenly thin quarterback depth chart.
But Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that when Simms and Rattay arrived, they were told “the situation had changed” and they no longer were needed. So they left without a workout.
It’s not quite clear what the Patriots meant by “the situation had changed.” Tom Brady is still done for the season, and that means the Patriots could still use another quarterback.
So maybe the Patriots plan to sign another free agent quarterback. Chris Mortensen suggested on ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown that Randy Moss might have recommended Daunte Culpepper. And Vinny Testaverde is available. Or maybe the Patriots are working on a trade.
Whatever the Patriots are working on, Matt Cassel is the starter, and he won’t be backed up by Simms or Rattay.

Belichick loves experience and I could see either Testaverde or Culpepper getting a shot. However, to send both Simms and Rattay away without even a work out wouldn’t seem to make a lot of sense, unless you knew what you were getting. Meaning, certainly you would want to work out Daunte or Vinny before signing them … or at least I would assume so. This would seem to point more towards a trade or resigning of Gutierrez. But given the Pat’s desire for experience, Culpepper would make a LOT of sense and has the arm needed for that offense. Big question is, though, are his drops quicker than they were in Oakland?

Maybe Drew Bledsoe, Michael Bishop or Rohan Davey could be in the mix?

This is all just another one of Bill Bellichek’s nefarious schemes.
Brady never blew out his knee. Bellichek is just trying to make other teams take the Patriots lightly. I swear, that guy’ll do anything to gain even the slightest advantage in gameplanning.
Watch, the Pats will introduce their new QB this week against the Jets. It’ll be a guy named “Brom Tradey,” and he’ll look just like Tom Brady, only with a big, thick mustache that looks sort of scotch-taped on.

Yeah, it sounds like they’re on the brink of signing someone. I think they’d want to get someone with experience in their system, so they’d feel comfortable about them getting up to speed quickly. Probably not Culpepper. Maybe Testaverde. Maybe Doug Flutie. Maybe a trade for Damon Huard (doubtful though, as the Chiefs aren’t doing too well on Quarterbacks themselves right now). Maybe Bledsoe (but I think that bridge was burned, drowned, put in a blender and then the blender was set on fire). Maybe just Guiterrez again.

You know im not too sure how the Bucs feel about this….but I’d have to think Brian Greise is a PERFECT fit for their situation. He’s smart, has all kinds of experience and would def come in and get the ball moving for that offense.
The bucs traded I BELIEVE a 5th round pick to re-acquire him…but maybe they could get something more valuable back in return now that there is a need?
….or maybe im just a Bucs homer and Daunte Culpepper is on his way there now lol.

I highly doubt Culpeppers phone is ringing. Belichick already said Cassel is the starter. Do you think it would be wise to have Randy Moss’s best buddy on the bench while Cassel is the starter? I wonder what the outcome of that would be. I wouldnt mind Testicleverde as he is smart and he has to do is manage the game.
If I see or hear anything about Doug Flutie I will eat my own shit.

Cleveland probably dumped Anderson, like last year when they dumped Frye after a first game blowout.

Maybe they are just going to stick with Cassel and O’Connell like Belichick said on WEEI at about 5:40 EST.
I like the Brom Tradey idea, though.
