On Sunday, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported that Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has a bulging disk in his back, and that Hasselbeck received an injection for the condition.
Hasselbeck admits that he has had an injection, and that he has a bulging disk. But he denies that he had the injection for the bulging disk.
“That is not really what was hurting my back,” he said. “From what I was told, 85 percent of the world would look the same if they MRI’d [their back]. That is not really why my back was hurt.”
Hasselbeck says that the injection was for back spasms.

It is true, i had my neck looked at few years ago and the doctor told me a DDD degenerative disc disease, I was a little freaked until he basically attributed to normal aging.
Mort has been scooped lately and is digging for something. Hasselbeck wasn’t the issue yesterday, it was a combination of a good Bills gameplan and piss poor catching of the football (taylor and putzier)- at least 6 drops in the first half doomed any continuity.

He’s right that a large segment of the population would show a bulging or herniated disc if they had MRI scans. And this appears to be a situation where they gave him a muscle relaxant rather than an anti-inflammatory (prednisone), which is the first approach to disc nerve impingement.
But if he didn’t have the bad disc, the anti-spasmodics wouldn’t be needed. This one is likely to get worse over the season unless they find that they can very quickly relieve the mechanical disc problem through aggressive physical therapy.

I wish I could agree with you that the only thing wrong with the ‘Hawks was that receivers were dropping passes. But we’ve got even bigger problems than that; such as an offensive line that continues to suck without Steve Hutchinson. We all hoped Solari and Wahle would come in and help that line improve, but if they continue to play the way they did yesterday, it is going to be a long and nasty season.
Ugh… I am so depressed. Time to take a handful of vicodin, wash it down with half a fifth of Jack Daniels, and go back to sleep for a day or two.
