Bears rookie RB Matt Forte had a great pro debut, with 123 yards on the ground and a touchdown, plus three catches for 18 yards.
Said Bears QB Kyle Orton, “We’ve always been a running football team. Any time you can do that, control the ball, you’re going to have a good game. That’s how we play football.”
Colts QB Peyton Manning described the contest as “kind of like a lot of first games for me. The first game, whether you play in the preseason or not, you’re always going to have some excitement.”
Said DE Adewale Ogunleye, “Today you could see how confused Peyton was. “He didn’t know what the hell was going on.”
The Bears’ offensive line exceeded expectations.
Bears NT Dusty Dvoracek was promoted to the starting lineup over Anthony Adams, who was inactive.
Bears K Robbie Gould became the fourth-most-accurate kicker in NFL history among players with at least 100 attempts.
Colts coach Tony Dungy said after the loss, “We certainly haven’t had one like that in a long time where we got thoroughly outplayed. It’s disappointing.”
Said Colts DE Raheem Brock, “We missed a lot of tackles. We missed a lot of assignments.”
The loss could have been uglier for the Colts, who had a couple of questionable calls go their way.

I gotta say, Jerry Angelo looked like he actually nailed an offensive pick. Forte looked great.
The Colts looked terrible; Marvin Harrison is starting to like Jerry Rice did at the end of his career when he couldn’t see that it was time to hang it up.

Maybe the Colts looked bad and Peyton was rusty, but the Bears looked good, much like the 2006 team.

Wow! Da Bears are back. I’m a Viking’s fan (send your condolences here), but I just love football in general. I got to tell you, it seems like the ‘Black and Blue’ is back in the division.
The Bears crushed the Colts. Their defense was scary good. If you like pad cracking hits, last night was your game.
The Vikes looked good in the preseason when they had their D on the field. Too many questions on how they will jell tonight at Greenbay but they will be good enough to physically hurt teams this year and they have 2 great running backs. They will be fun to watch.
Greenbay is still a really great club. They have the most physical receivers in the NFL, two really good running backs and a bone crushing defense. The only slam on Rogers that is credible is that he gets sacked too much. That may change because the Pack has a good offensive line but they play the Vikes twice and the Bears twice. Rogers will be black and blue. It’s not an ‘if’ issue, it’s a ‘when’ issue. It’s not just Greenbay that has to sweat this. The whole NFC North will be using back-ups this season.
Look for the Lions to come back. They will be an 8 and 8 team but they still have what it takes to hurt you. The Lions beat the crap out of teams and lose by 14 points. Good teams will play them, beat them and lose good players doing it.
I don’t think anybody figured the Bears to come out that strong but they did. It looks like shades of the 85 team. Great running, just enough passing to keep you honest and street fighters on defense. Do you remember Gary ‘the Spleen Splitter’ Fencik?
I got a feeling the Vikes and Packers will be a fun one. If nobody gets hurt, it could easily be the game of the week - on paper.
I’m so excited for tonight, it’s crazy. This was a great openning week for the NFL (not Brady or P. Manning).
It seems that for the first time in a long time the whole league is wide open. Steelers, Saints, Bills, Bears, Panthers, Philly, Falcons, Jets, Dallas and the Giants all looked really good. That means a lot of close, intense games. This will be a great season. Enjoy!

I was really hoping for a 4th quarter miracle just so we could see a freak out at the press conference a la “They are who we thought they were! And we let ‘em off the hook!!”

I’m not a Bears fan at all, but it seems like Robbie Gould is the best kick in the NFL right now.

Forte looked like a man. I hope he has the body to take the hits and not end up like past rookies before, ala Rashawn Salam, Curtis Enus. Angelo gets a good back and wears his ass out b/c they have no other options.
How many times did HESTER touch the ball????

Alright… it could be time to calm down a little bit.
I’ve been a Bears fan for 29 years and I’ve seen some terrible Bears teams take some good teams apart the first week of the seasons.
The Bears ran the ball on most 3rd and long situations and may have just shown that Indy is too prone to go with nickle or dime packages in those situations. If the offense can’t consistently stay on the field, which they DID in this game…barely… the defense will again get worn down over the course of the season.
But on the bright side, Forte does look pretty good. So did A-Train though…

Really? How could you not include the Titans on that list? We did beat a team that most folks picked to win the AFC South and some folks even picked them to win the AFC. So you put the Falcons on the list for beating the Lions but leave the Titans off? Thats about typical… we never get any respect.

Mavpa, you obviously are not a Bears fan. *Note - It take more than saying, “I’m a Bears fan,” to actually be a fan. See, fans are supposed to have faith in their team. Fans are always supposed to root for their team, not doubt them. You sir, are not a fan. Go hop on the Vikings bandwagon because we don’t want you.

You’re right titans_fan, I left them out. How’s Vince Young doing? I thought he went down yesterday. The Titans are good - really good, but if Young is hurt now, their season could be hit or miss. No disrespect intended.

At least I’ve stuck with this team long enough to remember when Wannstedt trounced the Cowboys in the opening game… debuting new free agent superstar Bryan Cox.
I also remember how that turned out.
Let me know how much all that support and rooting gets done if Mike Brown or Tommy Harris goes down again because the offense can’t get a first down.

The Colts offense was taking too much time, most likely due to Peyton having to get the blocking assignments (as Saturday usually does). This as well as the lack of time during preseason of Peyton and the #1 offense really hurt the offense. Also, the Bears played well (duh!).
The Colts D was really awful. Lots of missed assignments, tackles, bad angles… They didn’t do a whole lot right and when you allow nearly 200 rushing yards, you pretty much suck. 10/16 on third down is gonna lose you a game against anyone and letting Kyle Orton look like anything but the turd he is , well is just sad.

Oh I dont think he’s much better… certainly not near as mobile… but I’m taking a “lesser of two evils” approach and expecting less turnovers from Collins.
Come on man, lemme have my optimism.

The Bears defense is ALWAYS going to have problems with injuries because they play so many plays.
That, and for the last few years, when they scored they scored quickly. It’s not a knock on Mike Brown or any other player on the Bears defense… actually, the fact that they can still walk at the end of the year is a miracle.
It could also be said that it’s a mircale that they’ve never really REALLY ripped into Grossman.
