Though there’s no official word on the status of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, several members of the team the Pats play next think he has a torn ACL.
“Everybody I talked to said it’s a torn ACL,” an unnamed Jets player told Tom Curran of NBCSports.com. ”Players AND coaches. When we came in here that’s what people were saying, ‘Brady’s got a torn ACL.’”
Said coach Bill Belichick after Sunday’s 17-10 win over the Chiefs: ”I don’t have any update on Tom. They’re looking at him, doing some tests on him. I don’t have any information yet. Not that anybody would be interested in that.”
UPDATE: In response to a question in the comments about what this means, if it’s a torn ACL, Brady likely will miss the rest of the season. In 1995, Steelers cornerback Rod Woodson suffered a torn ACL and returned to play in the Super Bowl. But, for most players, it means what another commenter has suggested — Brady is “donezo.”

if brady is out for the year, this is a huge blow for the NFL. everyone will rejoice that the pats’ season is over, but the pats are scheduled for prime time a bunch of games this year, and this would significantly affect the NFL’s ratings by leaps and bounds. this really takes a lot of drama out of this season. sorry, but if you’re a fan of the league this is not a good day.

Ahm, from what I saw, it would appear that he is done, but, well, some players have played without an ACL. Hines Ward comes to mind as an example of a player that is playing with a missing ACL ligament in his knee. Doesn’t seem to cause him too much grief. Why, exactly does it have to be operated on if a player can run on it? I do know that the knee would be unstable, but for a qb like Brady, it’s not like he is very mobile to start with. Not exactly Vince Young out there.

The ACL is the major ligament in the knee that keeps the lower leg from slipping forward in relation to the rest of the leg. If it’s almost completely or completely torn, it needs to be repaired. That is usually done by taking a tendon from somewhere else in the body (like the patellar tendon) or a graft from a dead donor (cadaver). They’ve made incredible advances lately in the procedure and there is a chance if the surgery goes really well and he rehabs the hell out of it that he could be back for the playoffs or superbowl, since it’s not like he’s a running back, wide receiver or defensive back. That is if they make it that far without him. If it really is torn, I give him about a 20% or less chance of playing again this year.
It is a shame for him to go down like this. I was looking forward to the “drama” this year with the Pats being in the mix and getting my weekly chance to bash their fans. Who know’s Cassle could be the next Brady. OR NOT. Now we’ll really see how good Belichimp is.

In the middle of the article, it says an unnamed player told Tom Curran of NBC.com that the coaching staff and players were talking about it. They don’t need mole in the locker room. People around the league talk, especially considering the magnitude of the player and injury. And, if what I’m reading above is correct, Brady is done for the year.
I’m not a Patriots fan, but I did watch them beat my team in the Bowl in 2004. With that said, I respect their squad. I think Brady is a stand-up guy with a command on the football field matched by no other I’ve ever seen. Of course, I’m only 29, but NFL football is my religion.

Correction: the Jets are PRAYING TO GOD that Tom Brady has a torn ACL. It’s the only thing that gives them hope in their pathetic lives. As is the rest of the NFL. Unfortunately for all of you, what I’m hearing locally is that he was spotted WALKING to his car with nothing more than a slight limp. But I am sure the Jets locker room knows more having been playing a game at that time 1500 miles away…

DarthJay: Walking to your car does not mean that the injury is not serious. Many times, serious knee injuries do not seem that bad at first and until the MRI is done, there is no way to know.
Also, why so bitter?

rpm2000: So you’re telling me a team that made Tom Brady walk around in an air cast when he had a stubbed toe (or whatever minute injury he had) is going to let the guy walk around unprotected, let alone at all. It’s all speculation at this point. No one knows anything, especially considering the way the Patriots do business.
Bitter? Nah duderino, no one does bitter like all the clown Patriot haters on this board. So keep celebrating. I would too if my team went from having no shot at winning the Super Bowl this year to having a .5% chance. I mean shit, our city has won 3 Super Bowls, an NBA Championship and two World Series in the last what, eight years? What the hell do I have to be bitter about?

DarthJay: Walking immediately after the injury doesn’t mean it’s not a torn ACL. Our HS’s QB tore his last year, walked to his Mom’s car after the game, limped around school slightly the following Monday until the trainer insisted he use crutches, and went to the MRI assuming it was a bad sprain. Nope, torn ACL, done for the season. We won’t know until the MRI’s are released, (and don’t hold your breath with that organization releasing ANYTHING), but just because he supposedly walked to his car doesn’t mean it’s not torn. It’s all guesswork until the MRI is done.

how funny is it that this is the first time in like 7 years he is taken off the injury report and he goes down in the 1st quarter, possibly for the season. Shouldve kept the “shoulder injury”. Ironical if you ask me.
