For those of you who have been paying attention, you already know who the top team on our list entering the 2008 season is.
Even if you haven’t been paying attention, it should be obvious that the Patriots are still the best team in the NFL.
They’ve won 19 straight regular-season games, and based on their schedule should win four more fairly easily before facing the Chargers in a Sunday-nighter on October 12.
Surely, the Pats won’t win ‘em all again, but they don’t need to. The key games come against the Chargers and Colts. If the Pats win both of those, they’ll be on track to force through Foxborough the road to Tampa.
Though the Chargers, and maybe even the Jaguars, could challenge New England, it looks like they’ll end up right back where they were in February.
Barring, of course, an injury of any significance to quarterback Tom Brady. Without him, this is an 8-8 team, at best.

I expect a Post-Supe Loss Slump.
10 or 11 wins with a playoff appearance, but no Supe.
Do you think the Pats are immune to that, Mr. Mike..?
That defense has been lookin’ kinda old, too, you know….

Again, I’m not that down on Matt Cassel. He wouldn’t be flashy, but he wouldn’t make to many mistakes either. With a stable receiving core, a good running game, consistent gameplan, and good defense to back him up, the Patriots could still easily be a 9-7, 10-6 team.
Cassel would throw, if I guessed, for around 2500 yards with 13-15 touchdowns an 10-16 interceptions.

Think about it jackasses,
The patriots still have 2 of the best receivers in the league, a solid offensive line, deep runningbacks. When Brady took over his receivers were troy brown and who else? no names. cassel has many more tools around him than brady did when he took over. all cassel has to do is keep mistakes to a minimum. as long as the defense holds and moss and welker can go they will be fine. they could easily win 10 or 11 games. the team is not completely about tom brady. so youre all stupid if you think they are going 8-8.

Hey Mr. Mike,
Look on the bright side…
If there is a PFT DOT COM jinx at work here, then that puts you right up there with Sports Illustrated… Which, in my book, would fall under the category of “good problems to have”, sir.
Chin up!!!
