Multiple league sources have told us that a certain amount of the $24.5 million in new money included in the new contract signed on Thursday by Giants receiver Plaxico Burress is tied to his ability to continue to perform at a high level.

At this point, it’s not clear whether the $24.5 million assumes that Burress will reach certain escalators, or whether the number includes so-called de-escalators, which will result in a lower payment if Burress has lower output.

Of course, for a healthy Burress, output isn’t a problem.  On Thursday night, he caught 10 passes for 133 yards in the Giants’ 16-7 win over the Redskins.
