When reading over the Wednesday Morning One-Liners compiled by MDS, we noticed Ryan Fowler’s name.  And then we remembered that he hasn’t been suspended by the NFL.

Several months ago, it was reported that the league had informed Fowler that he’d be suspended four games for violation of the policy regarding anabolic steroids and related substances, and that he’d have to persuade the league not to follow through with it via a hearing.

But Fowler said last month that, since requesting said hearing, he was hearing nothing.  About the hearing.

And with all of the season-opening suspensions now announced and Fowler not among them, it could be that the league has decided not to pursue the matter.  Given that the suspension apparently arose from information provided by David Jacobs, who thereafter committed suicide by shooting himself . . . two times . . . it’s possible that the league has realized that, with no witness to testify at the hearing, the hearing would consist basically of Fowler denying that he had used steroids.

It doesn’t mean that this thing won’t bubble up again down the road, but our guess is that, given the raw number of hearings that the league held over the past several weeks, Fowler would have been included, if they were still inclined to press the issue.
