The PFTV guys have put their necks out on the line with their playoff predictions from the AFC for 2008.
We realize that a lot can and will happen, and that teams that aren’t expected to be good will be good and that teams that are expected to be good will not be good.
But this is the time of year when everyone offers up their predictions so, you know, when in Rome.

The Ravens? Seriously? The Ravens?
Yeah and a traditional Pakastani restaraunt would do great in this neighborhood Baboo.
Is it just that you don’t want people to say you are a Steelers fan or jumping on the Browns bandwagon?
The Ravens? Come on!!

“Were not supposed to be homers here.” What does that mean? Does that mean you and your little buddy are Patriots fans?
I thought you guys were in West Virginia? Home of Dueling Banjos and Ned Beatty running up a hill?
I am huge Chargers fan, but they have too many people coming back from injuries and Merriman playing with an injury. I don’t know if they have enough depth to make it to the SB. They certainly need a healthy nose tackle and much better run defense than last season.
Is it wrong for me to hope that Favre has a terrible season for the Jets?

The Ravens? Good one Florio, now post your real predictions. Ravens have a rookie (undeveloped) quarterback, and an offensive line that makes the Steelers feel good about themselves.

Big surprise the Patsies will win the AFC “Conference USA” East. Although, the Jets might take one game from them this year…maybe.
I agree with joebellio…the Ravens? I know you said not to ask Florio, but if you’re going to make a prediction like that, you kinda have to tell where you pulled that one from…although I think I already know.
I still don’t think the Jags have quite made that turn yet to be able to win their division. Until I see the Colts really slip, then I’ll stick with them to win.

The Ravens were awful last year and for good reason.
This year Ed Reed may be out with a career ending injury, Ray Lewis is a year older, Jon Ogden is gone and their O-line is patchwork, they have zero QB’s worth a shit (that rookie Flacco is in for a long year) their WR’s are awful, Todd Heap can’t stay heatlhy, their D-line is old and lacks depth, and they had a major coaching overhaul. That offense wont be able to score many points and the defense is just a middle of the pack defense. look at the stats from last year. This isn’t 2000 anymore. Plus they play the AFC South and NFC West. The Rats will be LUCKY to win 5 or 6 games.

THE RAVENS?!?!?!??!?!?!?!
They won’t win 6 games! and you CAN ask me why, because they stink on offense and their defense doesn’t beat anybody good, and Ray Lewis espcially gets lit up when he faces a team with a winning record.

As a Ravens fan I don’t think my team will make the playoffs..
But those of you thinking we’re going to be THAT bad.. We came within a blown penalty call of beating the Pats last year.. that has to count for something.
A few retarded misconceptions in this thread about my team.
1. The D-line is old, Trevor Pryce is old.. Gregg started his career late and has some left in the tank, he’s one of the best NT’s in the league.. Haloti Ngata..
2. Ray Lewis is old.. yet he’s still in the top 10 defensive stats every year.
3. The offense is bad, but we still have a pro-bowl running back in McGahee and the best rookie rusher so far in Ray Rice..
4. The o-line has a strong interior, the OT’s are decent.. and better than the Steelers like someone commented.
Please count us out, but the Ravens are always competitive and like they showed in the Pats game, can play with the big boys any day.

Florio just doesnt want to admit that its the Bengals that are taking the division.
He talks too much trash about them. But deep down he knows it to be true.

If Troy gets over the Tonsilitous, and starts, I think he could have a suprisingly good year, he’s mobile so if the protection isn’t great, he can try to make plays happen still. The Ravens could do fairly well, and end up in the situation Cleveland were in with Anderson & Quinn.
The Raiders too could be a contender in the West, if it all goes belly up for the Chargers, they are not a bad bet to top what is probably the weakest division in the NFL currently.

JPeezy says:
The Ravens were awful last year and for good reason.
So, JPeezy, what’s that reason? Any fan who knows anything knows the reason, but I suspect you will pretend it’s something else to make yourself feel better about your team.
The real answer……is injuries. Injuries to the starting QB, LT, RT, C, TE, WR, RB, KR, CB, CB, DT/DE.
The answer isn’t - “they’re old”. PIT and NE both had older defensive units than BAL last year. When a veteran team plays well, they’re experienced, when they lose or are injured, they’re old.
Here’s the bottom line, Florio is definitely going out on a limb picking BAL in the AFC North, and to be correct, BAL would have to be as healthy as the were in 2006, which would be a stretch. If they were that healthy, it’s totally conceivable that they could win the AFC North because we’ve seen the healthy Ravens team own PIT, CLE & CIN even with mediocre QB play.
The Ravens backups however,……that’s a whole different story.

Volkof52…
Please list for me the last time we’ve seen the healthy Ravens own Cincinnati. Last I checked, since Carson Palmer went under center the Bengals are winning the series 6-2.
If you want to talk about PRIOR to 2004, I’m fairly certain your argument won’t hold much water as this isn’t 2003.

Florio runs the best site about the NFL, but when it comes to predictions, he’s in the Peter King category. Makes a prediction with absolutely no backup argument;or a thin one at best. If you are going to make a prediction, back it up. Qualify it. Otherwise you are no better than the blow-hard at the end of the bar drinking purple hooters.
