The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced that center/guard Sean Mahan has been trade to the Buccaneers for an undisclosed 2009 draft pick.
Coincidentally, the Steelers signed Mahan from the Bucs in 2007, and he started every game in Pittsburgh a year ago.
But Mahan recently lost the starting center job to Justin Hartwig, and the Steelers apparently didn’t want to carry Mahan’s $2.175 million salary.
Mahan is signed for four more seasons. He is due to earn salaries of $3.175 million in 2009, $3.5 million in 2010, and $3.5 million in 2011.
Mahan was a fifth-round pick of the Bucs in 2003.

This could end up being a trade of Sean Mahan for the undisclosed draft pick plus Dre’ Moore, who could be signed off of Tampa’s practice squad and onto Pittsburgh’s 53-man roster.

Great move dumping that contract.
I’m sure every big DT in the division was sorry to see him go.

What are the salary cap implications? I think that the Steelers eat the prorated signing bonus, but how big was that?

LOL…NOAH Webster was he not….
Who do they bring in now? Another O-lineman, maybe even a Willie Anderson if he’s there, or possibly Booger McFarland? Or just some kid that wasn’t going to make another team? I’m just glad they got rid of Mahan. Good riddance.

@MJM1977
Booger is a DT. Who’s Noah?
I wish they’d sign Willie Anderson and LeCharles. At least as a fail safe, in case the Kemoautu experiment doesn’t pan out.

I can’t believe they wanted him back.
The NFC South is not exactly stacked with power 3-4 D-lines, though…

CoreyDangerous–
Uh, Noah Webster was the guy who wrote the dictionary. You could see how they would not want him at center.
