We expressed last night some doubt that Chad Javon Ocho Cinco is taking his new name seriously, given that the team and the league still are calling him “Johnson.”

His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has attempted to remove any doubt regarding Cinco’s preferred moniker.

“Chad is Chad Ocho Cinco,” Rosenhaus told Sprint Exclusive Entertainment.  “You can call him Chad or you can call him Ocho Cinco.  He is no longer Chad Johnson.  He is Chad Ocho Cinco.  That is his legal name and he would like to be referred to that now by the media and his friends and even family.  He’s serious about that.”

But Rosenhaus also made it clear that there’s a tongue-in-cheek component to this issue.  “I’m not sure if he’ll keep this permanently or he’ll go back,” Rosenhaus added.  “That’s the nice thing about it.  It’s all for fun and there is nothing about it that he needs to do permanently.  He can certainly change it back any time he’s interested.”

The notion that Cinco isn’t taking the change for religious or family or any other serious reasons might explain the fact that the team has yet to comply with its employee’s wishes, still calling him “Johnson” on Bengals’ official web site.

More importantly, Rosenhaus said that Johnson is healthy and ready to play on Sunday, despite reports of a partially torn labrum.  ”I literally just got off the phone with him.  He’s feeling very well.  The shoulder feels great.  He’s ready.  He’s 100 percent and he’s looking forward to having a great season.”
