A league source tells us that the Oakland Raiders are close to signing veteran receiver Ashley Lelie.
Lelie, a first-round pick of the Broncos in 2002, was cut on Saturday by the 49ers.
After a holdout in the final year of his rookie contract, Lelie was traded to the Falcons in 2006. He signed with the 49ers in 2007.
His best season came in 2004, when he caught 54 passes for 1,084 yards and seven touchdowns while starting all 16 regular-season games.

I said it once, I’ll say it again…maybe Denver didn’t treat the crybaby quite as badly as he thought, huh? My sympathy (almost) goes out to the Raiders. Between Javon and Ashley, that locker room is going to be a disaster. I only hope their horrible influence does not ruin JaMarcus Russell. It pains me to say it, but I think he has a chance to be a special player.

I see this guy as more of a #3 … with Curry moving to the slot when we go 3-wide … I doubt we’ll see him on running downs unless we’re going play action.

Get even game? The only person Ashley should be getting even with is the agent who gave him an inflated view of himself. If he would have quit crying and worked a little harder in Denver, those 1,000 yard seasons would have kept coming. He fit very well into the offense, and his deep speed would be a great fit with Cutler’s arm if he would have shut his mouth. As far as Javon…the only people he needs to get even with are still awaiting trial. Here’s hoping ol’ Mevon doesn’t decide to retire at some point during the game…

I think you paraphrased Mike Shanahan’s free agency signings over the last few years perfectly. Whether it was Dale Carter, Travis Henry, or any other of the numerous amount of cancers he has brought to Denver over the years, Shannahan has proven that without Elway, there will never be another Super Bowl in Denver.

What, Davis couldn’t talk Rod Smith out of retiring? Oakland is thin at receiver, but they won’t get what they need from Lelie, who will spend more time trying to take away Johnny Lee Higgins’ skirt than he will working on his routes.

Bob S., I would much rather have Royal than Lelie. At least Royal is a team guy who is going to work hard. In lelie and javon, you have not one but two guys who are going to cry about not being the #1 even though they will not be willing to work to become a #1. I say Curry is better than both of em, and neither is an upgrade…or close to it…over Porter.

Isn’t it funny that Ashley got all hurt when Javon came to Denver and now he gets to play with him. I love the Broncos but they really know how to screw up receivers who go on to play for other teams.
