Veteran cornerbacks Sam Madison and R.W. McQuarters were thought to be in jeopardy of losing their jobs as the Giants make their final roster cuts today.
But Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that both cornerbacks have made the Giants’ 53-man roster.
Two players who didn’t make the roster were quarterbacks Anthony Wright and Andre Woodson, meaning the Giants have decided to join the ranks of teams with just two quarterbacks on the roster. Eli Manning will start and David Carr will back him up.
Failing to make the final roster is a major disappointment for Woodson, who a year ago, as a senior at Kentucky, was being talked about as a high first-round draft pick. Woodson should at least make some team’s practice squad.
Schefter also reports that wide receiver Sinorice Moss did make the Giants’ final roster, although he’s been disappointing so far and will need to improve soon if he wants to keep his job.
UPDATE: According to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star Ledger, the Giants have signed kicker John Carney, and this is the full list of Giants cuts:
*QB Anthony Wright
*QB Andre’ Woodson
*FB Robert Douglas
*WR Marcus Monk
*WR Brandon London

Maybe Woodson finally understands why he wasn’t drafted on day 1.

ATTENTION JERRY ANGELO. TAKE A FLYER ON WOODSON. I PROMISE HE CAN COMPETE WITH AT LEAST TWO QBS ON YOUR ROSTER.
The sad thing is until this article was written, I had no idea who Woodson was. I still have total faith in my promise.

They should have kept Lorenzen - then they’d have three and a half QBs.

Should have kept Woodson and dumped Moss. You can imagine that someday Woodson MIGHT be a tolerable backup. With Moss, you can’t even imagine him lasting more than a game or two before he’s injured AGAIN.

Woodson will be on the practice squad. If Tynes was healthy he probably would have made the 53 man roster but having to bring in an extra kicker made it impossible.
