Willie Anderson has been one of the Bengals’ best players for more than a decade, a five-time Pro Bowl tackle who has started 173 games in 12 seasons.
But he’s now 33 years old and coming off a season in which he missed most of the year, and he may need to take less money to keep his job.
A league source tells PFT that the Bengals have approached Anderson and asked him to agree to take a pay cut. It’s not yet known whether Anderson is willing to take it, and it’s also not known whether the Bengals would release him if he refuses. But the possibility exists that the Bengals’ 1996 first-round draft pick could be on the way out.

If the Vikings are smart this is the guy they should go after. There will be some very good players available in a few hours. Anderson would be just one of them.

I don’t think he fits our “scheme”, but I think the raiders could use a tackle or two

the only thing is that the vikings are dumb a good example would be actually thinking they can win with a college QB at best.

Carson Palmer will want out next. If Willie is cut, Carson will be toast. Stacy Andrews has looked horrible as Anderson’s replacement in pre-season.

And yet they resign Chris Henry. NFL and Loyalty rarely deserve to be muttered in the same breath.

And why is that poor management? Cutting washed up players is poor management?

Willie’s not starting anymore, why should he warrant starters money. The Bengals took the high road before resigning this guy and letting Steinbach walk, which has obviously been a huge mistake. Willie owes them for how stupidly loyal they have been to him. If not, hey its a business lets see how loyal and patient other teams will be towards Willie as the Bengals have been.

Willie’s been cut. I wouldn’t cry for him though. He was smart, so his next life will be good, but I see him on another team (and effective) for a couple more years. His salary from footbal will be lower than it was, that’s a fact.

Whodey…..get yer lips off Mike Brown’s a$$.
I would hardly characterize Willie Anderson as “washed up” and I’ve been a Bengals fan since before you were wearing diapers. This is clearly a classic “El Cheapo” move on the Brown’s part. That being said, the move to cut Rudi Johnson is about a year late. I can’t think of a player that benefited more by running behind a strong offensive line.
If Mike Brown is trying to strong arm Willie into taking a pay cut maybe he should look at his own “illustrious” track record as a member of the Bengals and adjust HIS salary accordingly (can you say Max Montoya?). I wouldn’t show this owner the smallest amount of loyalty if I were put in Anderson’s position. Anderson does more for the good of the team sitting on the sideline licking a lollipop than Mike Brown does working 24/7.
Thank you bmcknight….agree 100%.
Funny thing is I usually fall on the side of management as I believe everyone has the right to sink or swim on their own decisions, but this guy has the track record for us to decide whether or not he floats or drowns.
This crap is why Major League Baseball got pushed to free agency. I remember when they first started paying out the mega deals (Catfish Hunter) in baseball and thinking it’s about time some of these guys got paid what they were worth. I never thought far enough ahead (hell…I was like 13) to realize what would happen on the backend. Baseball is a shell of what it used to be and football has rightfully taken that spot in our hearts. This to me is the bellweather moment when the worm turns on the NFL.
-shrug-
If it does then it’s just one more sport I won’t spend my money on (I will always take advantage of a corporate seat that comes my way). Here’s to hoping the MSL can grow into something worth watching

This ain’t Madden. Nickle and diming a guy that stayed when everyone else couldn’t wait to get out of there (Spikes, etc.) is why the Bengals are the Bengals.
