The NFL has annouced that Vikings left tackle Bryant McKinnie has been suspended for the first four games of the 2008 regular season.
Presumably, the suspension is final and all appeals have been exhausted.
The suspension begins tomorrow, August 30. He’s eligible to return on September 29.
McKinnie’s penalty arises from felony charges related to his alleged decision to whack a bouncer in the head with a pole earlier this year. Though the charges haven’t been resolved, McKinnie is a repeat offender — nearly three years ago, he was doing some nasty sh-t on the Love Boat, and he eventually pleaded guilty to charges of disorderly conduct.

Now while McKinney deserves some kind of suspension, Roger Goodell could have done this a month ago in order to give Minnesota enough time to get sufficient playing time to Artis Hicks at LT before the season starts. We are now 10 days away from the start of regular season, and he does it now..
Not to mention that this suspension is “final”? So every player that has gotten suspended this year was not only able to appeal their suspensions, but get them reduced, yet McKinney doesn’t even have the chance to appeal it..
So Nick Barnett the woman beater can get his 1 game suspension cleared, and Johnny Jolly the drug dealer doesn’t get anything handed down on him before the season starts.. Goodell is a useless commissioner for football.. Instead of playing fair, he plays favorites.. What a joke..

Hopefully we can find out that this Hicks fella can fill the shoes of McKinnie, then we can launch this perrenial turd. The guy is overpaid and can’t stop a speed rusher to save his life. Maybe we should give him a pipe to use on the line. Maybe then he could block a rusher for at least a three step drop.

Wish the Commish would have done this sooner. Sucks to lose someone the week before the season starts. But in the end the responsibility and the blame lies on McKinnie for being an idiot in the first place.

And the NFL’s obvious butt-kissing of the Green Bay Packers continues.
It started with the obvious bending over backwards (and, presumably, bending over forwards) that Goodell did for the Packers during the Favre situation. Now, after having had FOUR MONTHS to make this decision, Roger Goodell decides to wait until a week and a half before the season starts to make this move.
Get up. . .get down. . .Roger Goodell is a joke in your town.

I especially love the totally inaccurate comparisons to Barnett ( arrested for shoving a very drunk woman out of his path after she threw a drink in his face) and a first time arrestee in Jolly, a case that might not even make it to trial.
Now let’s compare those “offenses” with a second time offender in McKinnie, at a strip club, at 630 Am and he knocks a guy out with a metal pipe and then resists arrest when the cops show up.
Remember, this is a second offense, the first offense is my favorite, this guy, a mental genius on the same level as his head coach, files in hookers from out of state so he can enjoy lunch at the Y on the Love Boat cruise.
A guy has to be a special brand of stupid to lick a hooker but that’s what McKinnie did. Can you possibly do a dumber thing in life? The answer is yes, you can lick hookers and then to show that you have reformed your life, you can crack people over the head with metal pipes.
The Vikings have shown their true character with this clown. It doesn’t matter what you do, who you lick, or how you conduct yourself as long as you can play left tackle as a high level, the management will overlook these minor transgressions.
I hope Goodell had the sense to warn McKinnie, your third offense is going to be 8 games. Apparently, he didn’t learn from his Love Boat escapades.
Stay classy Viking fans, we know you have it in you.

McKinnie deserves it, and Childress should have braced for it. The only gripe, as evidenced by most other posters is the timing. What on earth has Goodell been waiting for? McKinnie to come clean and promise to never be an idiot again?
KGB will likely be unavailable for that game, so he won’t wreck any havoc.
If McKinnie is as overrated as many fans believe, then we will certainly find out soon.

I wonder what McKinnie was planning to do with that metal pipe if he didn’t wrap it around that guy’s melon. Do you suppose it was the pole from the club and he was going to sell it to Pac Man? Also, for the guy that is obesessed with the word “lick” as it pertains to hookers…I believe McNotsoskinnie was actually using a pole shaped object on the hooker. Of course, that was just the rumor…hehe. I doubt the hooker was the one carrying the most disease anyway.

40for60 says:
“McKinnie to come clean and promise to never be an idiot again?”
McKinnie must have missed his Mensa meetings, you know, the Mpls chapter that has such distinguished intellectual dignitaries as Brad Childress and T Jack Off.
The NFL should institute a rule about limiting the number of nitwits in the locker room. The Bungles, VIqueens and Matt Millen would be in deep doo doo.

More idiocy from JimmySmith. How surprising.
The comparisons to Barnett are completely dead on, because Barnett is a gutless thug, much like many of his Green Bay teammates. Any man that punches a woman in the face should be considered nothing less than a complete piece of gutter trash.
And Johnny Jolly? World-famous drug runner Johnny Jolly? He’s going to federal pound-me-in-the-ass prison. He deserves to. He obviously tried to pick up the legacy of his former TaMU teammate, Terrence Kiel, who got arrested for doing the same thing. . .transporting enough codeine to take down a brontosaurus. . .for the same purposes. . .brewing illicit drugs.
Of course, the Packers have a lot of precedent for this sort of behavior, a lot of which they like to forget while they’re running their mouths about other teams. Mossy Cade and his sexual assault conviction, Mark Chmura raping teenagers, players getting suspended for entire seasons for gambling, and so forth.
All a part of the massive superiority complex possessed by 99% of all Packer fans. Packer fans should realize that their team winning football games does not, in fact, make THEM winners.
So the Vikings have to start Artis Hicks at LT on 8 September. The Vikings would beat the Packers if they were starting Taylor Hicks at LT.

TheGonz,
Do you mean to tell me I am not a winner because the Packers kick the hell out of the BIQUEENs twice a year? Who knew?
The police report did say Barnett punched the women, it was widely reported that he shoved her as a response to getting a drink thrown in his face. Big difference but don’t let the facts get in the way of your argument.
Let’s see where the Jolly court case goes before you declare him a ‘drug runner’. Again, accordingly to published reports (as opposed to your opinion), the case is likely to be pleaded down to a misdemeanor. Can you pronounce the words, “No suspension”?
Mosey Cade is an embarrassment but how many years ago was that? Churma is an embarrassment but your facts are incorrect again, there was never a rape charge. Again, how many years ago was that? The gambling reference was from 1962, that’s 46 years ago; the BIQUEEN’s have lost 4 Superbowls since then. (Being the history major that you are, I am sure you realize the Packers have won 3 in that span, not to mention NFL championships in the 60’s before the Superbowl)
I would submit that no one franchise in the NFL is squeaky clean. But the BIQUEENs are rich in embarrassments. The Love Boat is on a level onto itself. There has only been one head coach in the history of the NFL that was fined for scalping Superbowl tickets. And while there are literally dozens, if not hundreds, of NFL players who would never be confused for Eagle scouts, McKinney is approaching PacMan territory with his arrests.

JimmySmith:
I’m not sure it would make any difference what team you were a fan of. . .you’d be a loser, regardless. You just happen to be a part of the most overrated fanbase in the NFL, cheering on the most overrated team in the history of North American professional sports, so it only makes things worse for you.
Also, there is no team called the Biqueens, just like there is no team called the Pacqueers. Although I will say that “Pacqueer” is much smarter and much funnier, because it actually makes sense.
And it’s awesome that your namesake. . .also vastly overrated, just like your team and your fellow Green Bay fans. . .decided it would be a good idea to get hammered and then go for a little drive. Fine example he’s setting.
Anyway, you’re an idiot and a loser, and no amount of victories by “your” team is ever going to change that. Why don’t you run along now and let the adults talk about football?
