The Philadelphia Eagles have announced that they have released eight players, trimming their roster from 75 player to 67.
Gone are receiver Bam Childress, cornerback Therrian Fontenot, cornerback Nick Graham, receiver Jamal Jones, running back Ryan Moats, safety Marcus Paschal, offensive lineman Stefan Rodgers, and linebacker Pago Tagofau.
All teams are required to cut their rosters to 53 players by 6:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday. We’ll be tracking all of the cuts and posting regular updates throughout the day tomorrow.

I’ll be real interested to see if anyone picks up Ryan Moats. The guy showed some real promise, but just failed to deliver come game-time. If given the right opportunity, the guy could be a great pick-up for someone.

McDougle, Howard, and Bryan Smith. Who stays, who goes? McDougle has had a great preseason (albeit playing against 2nd & 3rd teams). Bryan Smith looked good last night and has a better upside then either of the other two. Howard should be cut (or, with God’s help, traded). I’m tired of hering about his ability to play the “joker” position. He’s been a disappointment since he was drafted. He’s worse than Jevon Kearse, because at least with Kearse you could point to his rookie year as evidence that he could play, but Howard has shown nothing. I have the weirdest feeling that if we cut McDougle, he’ll end up playing for the NYG and becoming the player we thought we drafted! Howard must go!

I think moats could have been something special. Too bad that he couldn’t pick up the blocking schemes he needed. And then getting hurt was the icing, be he knew the writing was on the wall when we drafted hunt last year and traded for booker this season.
Sucks, but hopefully he’ll pick up somewhere else.

Thank god they finally got rid of Moats. He has been awful every year he was on the team. WELCOME TO THE NFL DeSean Jackson!

Does anyone know: would making cuts early help you stash players on the practice squads? Since other teams haven’t made their necessary cuts yet, they’re less likely to grab players made available, ensuring the possibility that you can transfer them to the practice squad. Not suggesting this is at play here, just curious if that could work or if I’m missing something to my logic.

Agrees with fretileoctogenarian -
Ever since Umenyiora went down I’ve been thinking that McDougle will end up a Giant because of the Spagnuolo connection. If it happens I hope The Brids make a deal and get something for him.

Bam Childress, clearly the love child of West Chest native Bam Margera and former Eagle coordinator Brad Childress.

Bam Childress got a lot of looks last night, and although he caught a TD, he had 3 drops as well. Poor guy played his heart out, he must have known after the first drop. As for the rest of the list, Nick Graham is somewhat surprising, given that he was our nickel corner at times last season. And Pago and Paschal both received playing time last year too, although Pago was a late season addition.
I wonder if they’re trying to pass some of these guys through to the practice squad early so that teams don’t waste a waiver on them while waiting for better bait.

Moats ends up in Denver and one of our ends will wind up in New York unless Big Red is smart enough to trade one(which i doubt)Gasperson will be cut and come back to camp again next year,as usual. I’m hoping to go into season without having to see Greg Lewis and i’m curious to see if they giv Winston”NO” Justice “No Peace” and Rocky Boiman.

Kinda bummed to see Bam go. I gotta concur with all of you who want to wave goodbye to the Howard experiment. Roughly $5 mil a year for 43 tackles and 6 sacks in two years? ca mon…. If I’m AR I’m going with the gut shot (sorry) and keeping McDougle.
Romello, I’ll be amazed if they let Justice go. Even if his play deserves it (which I can’t decide yet), such an action would be quite an admission of drafting ineptitude.

What exactly is the waiver process besides worse teams getting first shot…do you think the Eagles are trying to drop one or two of these guys so they’ll clear waivers quicker while other teams rosters are stocked so they can practice squad them…like Nick Graham…
I guess it doesn’t completely matter b/c teams can pluck PS players at pretty much anytime…

Practice squads don’t get established until after the deadline for cuts so no this is not a clever ploy. It’s just them making the easy decisions and spreading the workload, there’s paperwork to be done, exit medicals, playbooks to be collected etc.
