With starting left guard Kyle Kosier absent due to a foot injury, the Dallas Cowboys shored up the position on Thursday, acquiring veteran Montrae Holland from the Broncos.
In exchange, the Cowboys gave up a fifth-round draft pick.
Holland spent his first four NFL seasons with the Saints. He joined the Broncos in 2007 and started every game, and he could be the started when the Cowboys travel to Cleveland in Week One.
The 2003 fourth-round pick is under contract through 2009. He’s due to earn a base salary of $1.15 million in 2008, and $1.4 million in 2009.

why doesn’t this article mention that Holland was in Shanahan’s doghouse all preseason for showing up 25 lbs overweight? He ended up losing his job to Kuper. I’m glad they got a draft pick for him, I thought he was going to get cut.

This article should have mentioned that Holland showed up to Broncos camp 25 lbs overweight and wasn’t able to drop it. He lost his job to Kuper and was on the verge of getting cut. Glad the Broncos got something for him.

Kudos to Jerry Jones.
He’s getting better - - this trade beats the 4th rounder he gave up for Pacman, I mean Adam.

Montrae currently weighs more than the area of Holland in the Netherlands.

It’s not that Holland is that overweight, word is that he doesn’t dive at defensive linemen’s knees fast enough for Shanahan

Vox, the real word is the Cowboys wanted their players to be as “hungry” as the Broncos. Well you just got our hungriest player on the O-line. Too bad it’s the wrong kind.

This proves my point of how overated the Cowboys reallly are. Why say you? Dallas has very little depth at many key positions. What happens if Romo goes down? Brad Johnson is 80 years and my grandmother has more mobility. What happens if a 35 year old TO gets hurt again? The rest of their recievers are average or below. Obviously this most recent signing shows one more injury on the O line and the Boys will be in trouble. Two years ago Ellis went down and the rest of the defense folded like a cheap suit.Factor in the bozo coaching them and you have a recipe for disaster.

We just lost our starting LG to injury. To replace him we can go with guys that have never started an NFL game and who haven’t had that impressive of a TC, or we can trade with the Broncos and take a guy with 46 career NFL starts under his belt (and has appeared in 68 total games) who has given up just 7 1/2 sacks in his career.
Career Offensive Line Stats

2005 NO 15 10 5 35 3 2 1.50 10.00

It’s quite true the Cowboys like the big road graders instead of the smaller, more athletic, finesse cut-blocking type guys the Broncos favor.
Somehow we managed to win 13 games last year with these big fat fellows and had guys like Madden crowing about how great our pass protection was.
If the Broncos coaches set a target weight for this guy below 310 pounds that’s their fault.
We’ll gladly take him, he’s far better than anybody we could have replaced Kosier with.
Only 7 1/2 sacks in 68 NFL games played, 46 of them starts, and note also he only gets flagged for holding about 2 times a season.
So he was a bad fit for you? He’s perfect for us.

Perfect?…Like a QB with a 67 passer rating on a team with 13 pro bowlers and homefield advantage?…..OK….If you say so….
