Kevin Lynch of SFgate.com reports that veteran offensive lineman Larry Allen will sign a contract with the Cowboys.
It’s unclear whether Allen intends to actually play, or whether it will be a ceremonial one-day retirement deal.
His page on NFL.com actually shows him as an active player, and as a member of the Cowboys.
Allen spent 12 years in Dallas and the past two with the 49ers.
UPDATE: Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that it will be a ceremonial re-signing only.

Had his contract with the ‘niners expired before he retired?
He can definately still play, probably one of, if not the single, best run blocking guards in the league.

Wow, Larry Allen’s just a little bit less mobile than Stephen Hawking at this point but I can’t say that I’m not glad that he’s back home. They must really think that those backups suck.

LA was a beast and an integral part of their championship teams of the 90s. However, these ceremonial signings are rather pointless. He’ll have his day when he enters the Ring of Honor, and then Canton in 2013.

As a long time Cowboy hater and 49ers fan I must say….. Congrats on your career LA. You paved the way for many RB records inluding Gore’s franchise record of 1695 yards in 2006.

He’ll be taking the Philthydelphia Expressway and mowing down everyone that gets in his way, like he always has.

Too bad it’s only ceremonial. Used to get a kick out of how guys like Hollis Thomas and Rhett Hall would get the Larry Allen flu on Cowboys-Eagles week.

It may be a cerimonial contract, but I’ll bet there’s still a weight clause.
