Though Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt has taken issue with reports that quarterback Kurt Warner will start the team’s regular-season opener, Warner has moved another step in that direction by being named starter for the preseason finale.
But no one knows whether it will be Warner or Matt Leinart when things get started on September 7.
“We all want to know,” Warner said Wednesday. “For Matt and myself, it’d be nice knowing what the situation would be and be able to move forward with it. The way I look at it more than anything, the sooner it can happen, the sooner we can get past the [interviews and media coverage] that goes with it, and you can prepare for the game.
“We know it’s getting close and you get that anxiety and excitement knowing the decision has to be made soon. I am sure coach understands that and he’ll make the decision as soon as it’s necessary.”
Whisenhunt said that the decision to give Warner the start for the fourth preseason game arises from the fact that Leinart has taken 57 preseason snaps and Warner has taken only 30.

Is it possible that Whisenhunt is hoping Warner stinks it up so that he can give Leinart the job despite Leinart’s pathetic preseason?

This “indecision” is one big ruse. Warner is the starter, no doubt about it.
While Whisenhunt wants to build for the future, he also wants to be around when that future comes — playing Leinart may very well get him canned.

For all the effort that’s gone into handling Leinart with kids gloves, it sounds like Whisenhunt is actually starting to alienate Kurt Warner instead.

He won’t stink it up. Jesus (pronounced “hay-soos”) won’t let him.

Leinart just doesn’t fit. They should trade him in the offseason and make a run at Derek Anderson.

He’s stunk it up plenty bigdunit, so I don’t think Hay Soos gives a crap about Hurt Warner.

Leinart is due to receive a $15M escalator bonus in the near future, money that he will be paid simply because he played in 25% of the offensive snaps his rookie year.
Could this have something to do with why the team seems so desperate to figure out if Leinart is really an NFL QB?
After all, wouldn’t the Cards look and feel like a bunch of idiots (well, a bigger bunch of idiots than they usually feel like) if they had to pony up such a ridiculous amount of money for a guy that they weren’t sure had NFL game?
The Cardinals seem to be in a panic, as they try to get a gauge on Matt Leinart’s ability.
If he stinks, they will want to let him go and not pay out that big bonus to a lousy bust. But also, if he does have game, the Cards will want to get moving quickly on a more cap friendly renegotiation.
It seems obvious that Kurt Warner is a far superior QB at this point in time and gives the team a better chance of success in 2008.
But, it also seems obvious that the organization is more interested in finding out what they have in Leinart than trying to win right now.
Leave it to the Bidwills!!!

Some coaches seem to have a death wish. Lovie stubbornly sticking with Wrecks last season is one example, and now Wisenhunt insisting that Mattie is #1.
Meanwhile, Warner remains delusional (”We all want to know”) even tho’ the starter has already been named.
