Amid rumors (likely premature) that a deal already has been done, there’s evidence that the Cleveland Browns remain interested in free-agent cornerback Ty Law.
On Tuesday, coach Romeo Crennel indicated that there’s still a possibility that Law will land in the Dawg Pound.
”We are serious about everybody we consider and I think Ty is a consideration,” Crennel said. ”Only time will tell with that one. There are a lot of things that go into it, what we think about the guys we have and things like that. Sometimes finances get involved. So you just take each situation differently and day by day and see.”
It’s believed that G.M. Phil Savage is resisting Law because he wants too much money. As of Monday, the Browns had $9.2 million in cap space.
After spending ten years with the Patriots, Law spent one with the Jets and then two with the Chiefs. During his three post-Patriots career, Law has started every game.

I read online at the Boston Globe website that Law would like to return to New England, but that it is unlikely to happen.
Cleveland is said to be likely to sign him. The only uncertainty now is how much the Browns will pay him and for how long.

Mike, We are hearing that the Patriots are still under consideration by Ty Law. Are you of the belief that Law is still an option for the “NE” after the John Lynch signing? You have to admit it would be an interesting marketing campaign involving the 3 aging Pro-Bowlers (Law, Lynch & Harrison) in the new/old and improved Defensive Backfield… I am all for Law as New England still is in need of additional help in the DB.
Bradtor777, Price will always be the major concern for Law as well as his potential suitors New England and Cleveland. I know for a fact that if Law had lowered his asking price he would be a member of the Pats today. Belichick and Co. were prepared to sign him 3 months ago (for the “Pioli Price-Tag” of course)! The interested parties should let him marinate on the Free-Agent Market and actually force “The Law” to make a decision with his heart instead of his back pocket for once! What do you think?

how can Ty Law still play football? I can’t see this 34 year old lining against a young receiver in his 20’s and actually being effective

Ty, stay away from N.E. The last thing they need is another slow old guy.
Not worth the money.

Bucfs,
I agree with you for the most part in regards to Ty at one of the Corners but how do you feel about him at Safety? I feel at that position he will turn his bulk gain into a positive attribute between the hashmarks for some NFL team in the 08 season. At 34 he should be able to squeak out one more respectable year at the Safety spot.

As a Brown’s fan, I am sick and tired of “Pork Chop” Crennel (that’s one pork chop shy of 400 lbs) bringing in his has-been Patriot’s players to stink up the Brown’s defense, can you say Ted Washington, Willie McGinest, and now Ty Law. Give me a break! McGinest cost us two losses by himself last year. Savage should put his foot down on this one.

Ty Law has been one of the most consistent Cb’s in the game! Yes he isn’t a kid anymore, but that experience he has is unmeasurable…
Seasoned Vets can make up for a lost step with knowing where to be!
Ty Law knows the 3-4 that the Browns and the Jets run. He learned that system under BB and Crennel, Ratgini…etc
I hope he decides to come back to New England and finish out his HOF career with the Pats…where it all started!

I’d like to see Ty Law try and match-up against Chad Johnson, or Santonio Holmes and keep up with them. Go ahead Browns, the rest of the AFC North would thank you.

I read the title of this blog post and thought to myself, “Wow, that’s cool. Because the Bengals and my Bucs have apparently never had an interest in the law.”

Maybe they can switch Ty to linebacker to replace that bust, Beau Bell.

Just ask Darrell Green….he did it into his late 30’s, early 40’s. Law can still play…he just needs to lower his price a little.

Frank Burns….you are a douche. How can Bell be a bust when he was a 4th rounder? Learn your football before you run your jib.

“McGinest cost us two losses by himself last year.”
So - if he cost you two “losses” last year, then you won those two games?

Ty law wouldn’t be the #1 CB so he wouldn’t line up against either of those two.

Darrell Green was a beast on par physically with Jerry rice in the offseason. Law should not be a CB anymore at all, but would be a good SS or nickel LB. I like the hard hitters. I would really like to see him hit Frank, but I do think it is wrong to hit women.

No I’ll tell you what’s douchey backacre — bragging about getting “Bell, the steal of the draft” because he’s only a 4th rounder, pure genius! Then hiding behind “oh he can’t be judged a bust, he’s only a 4th rounder!” That having-it-both-ways schoolgirl escape excuse is what defines the word “wussiness.”

Did Ty Law do anything with the Chiefs besides cash checks? He’s a brand name at this point in his career, not a quality roster addition.

Did Darrell Green’s ass get as big as Ty Law’s at the same point in his career? Law is too old now, but he thinks he should get paid on his past accomplishments.
