Though the concussion that Browns quarterback Derek Anderson suffered eight days ago when he was flatted by Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora has been cahracterized as “mild,” Anderson has been absent from practice.
He made a brief appearance on Tuesday, with no indication as to when he’ll be able to participate fully in practice.
There have been rumblings that Anderson is experiencing sensitivity to light, which has relegated him primarily to inside work. It’s unknown whether Anderson tolerated his outdoor cameo.
Anderson won’t play in the preseason finale, giving Brady Quinn his second NFL start. It remains to be seen whether Anderson will be able to play come September 7, when the Cowboys come calling.

ah geez. i had a feeling something like this would happen. ok quinn who felt bad that he didn’t get picked high; quinn who held out, quinn who had the storied ND career, time to man up, buddy. i think the line needs to ensure they play lights out, and cleveland overall needs to play much more physical ball. i think they will be ready for dallas.

Despite D.A.’s great season last year (and it was great, considering it was his first year as a starter) there are still a lot of Browns fans who would rather see Brady Quinn as the starter. I just don’t get it. Derek throws one of the best deep balls in the NFL, and he and Braylon are just a notch below Brady-Moss, Manning-Wayne, and Romo-Owens. With another great season, they might be on those guys’ level…but they’ll be knocking on the door.
I actually don’t think it is too far fetched to say that D.A. is the best QB in the AFC North. Okay…maybe it is a little far-fetched, considering he only has one season while Carson Palmer and Big Ben have been doing it for longer and are more proven. Still, for the first time in a long time the Browns have a QB who is in the conversation. Any extended absence for Derek Anderson, considering the rapport he has with Braylon and Kellen, would be a big loss. I am not among those who think the offense wouldn’t skip a beat with Brady in there. He is the #1 draft pick and Golden Boy from Ohio. If the competition was just even, he would be the starter.
Clearly, Derek is doing something right in practice as well as in games to have the faith of the coaches. For Browns fans everywhere, let’s hope he is okay for the Dallas game. I wouldn’t lose all confidence with Brady in there…but I’d sure like our chances a lot better with D.A.

Umm… sensitivity to light doesn’t seem like a symptom of a “mild” concussion. That sounds more like being fully addled.

Midwest Sports Fan……did you even watch the end of the regular season last year with DA at the helm? please don’t put him anywhere near the caliber of Carson Palmer and Big Ben.

If by “just a notch” you mean “a gigantic, gaping canyon”, then I would have to agree.

“There have been rumblings that Anderson is experiencing sensitivity to light”… from who? ahhh the “rumor mill”
They held DA for 1 week for precautionary reasons. They already decided that Quinn will start against the Bears, so DA came out went through all of his individual work out, then went inside for additional rehab, while Quinn (who will be starting Thursday) and Dorsey, took all the snaps with the team. Team doctors and trainers have already said, that they are optimistic that DA, Edwards, Lewis, Cribbs, and (possibly Tucker & Peek) will be on the field Monday to start preparing for Dallas Sept. 7. The goal being to have everyone ready for the REGULAR season, not the Bears in the 4th pre-season game…
I’m sick of preseason….. nothing but injuries and “rumors”…

I misspoke. Brady and Moss are head and shoulders above everyone else, considering their 23 TD connections last year.
Manning-Wayne:1,510 yards, 10 TDs, Romo-Owens: 1,355 yards, 15 TDs. Anderson-Edwards:1,289 yards, 16 TDs.
So actually, they are pretty a big step below Brady-Moss, as are everyone else…but right there with the other two. Is Derek Anderson as good a QB as Manning or Romo? No, and he’s far too inexperienced to even make a comparison. But as a duo, there is only one other that is clearly about Anderson-Edwards, and that’s Brady-Moss.

It’s obvious that Midwest Sports Fan did not actually WATCH any Browns games last year, especially the last 1/3 of the season.
Doing something right to win the support of the coaches? It’s called a big f’ing contract, not doing something right. These are the same coaches that put Frye as the starter over DA last year.
thanks for your “browns fans everywhere” comment, but…this one doesn’t need it.

By week 13!? Stinky, Quinn is going to start week one. Anderson is injured and the team is lying about the severity of the injury.

Midwest sports fan….that link was the biggest piece of garbage that has ever been written. Take out the stupid biased things (he was destined to throw 5 td’s his 1st game, he’s so cool, his penis is biggest, blah blah blah), and lets look at the one factual piece of information.
Braylon Edwards had more TD’s than Santonio Holmes. Braylon is was also in his 3rd year, Holmes was in his 2nd (btw, led the league in yrds per catch), and people are expecting a big 3rd year out of him.
And seriously, how can you argue that you’d rather have your QB throw for 19 ints over 11 ints when the TD production is about the same (BTW, figure in rushing TD’s are yards and Ben is clearly superior). Ya know what, you can take your 19 interception QB every year, good luck winning the division.

After reading Midwest Sports Fan’s comments claiming Andersen is “better” than Roethlisberger, I can only conclude he’s also had a concussion. Only his is ten times worse than his idol’s.

so, sir, if you don’t like to hear it from browns fans, how about from a non-browns fan: If you want Brady Quinn over Derek Anderson you are a freaking retard.

If you’re referring to me, i suggest you re-read what i wrote. i didnt say anything about “hear(ing) it from browns fans”. And no, i am not a ND fan. If anything, i am quite the opposite.
As to the epic DA/BQ debate, only time will tell. However, calling someone a retard because their opinion differs from yours is retarded. Keep your day job as you don’t have a future being a message board troll.
Go Browns.
