Receiver James Jones, who was impressive as a rookie for the Packers in 2007, could spend the first game of 2008 on the sidelines.
Per Jason Wilde of the Wisconsin State Journal, Jones suffered a sprained knee during Friday night’s preseason game against the Broncos. The injury, previously thought to be a bruise, could keep Jones out of the September 8 opener against the Vikings.
This would bump Ruvell Martin up to No. 3 and rookie Jordy Nelson to No. 4 on the depth chart.
Jones appeared in every game a year ago, starting nine of them. He caught 47 passes for 676 yards and two touchdowns. His best performance came on a Monday night at Denver, where he generated 107 yards on three catches, including a 79-yard touchdown.

Rodgers and Martin worked together on the B team,Rodgers has called Martin”his guy”,so this may not be as bad as it would seem.Receiver is obviously the teams strongest depth position.I’m not sure you can place Martin in the same class as Jones skill wise.

Jones also worked with Martin and Rodgers, but not to the same extent. Jones is very good, though. Donald “I drop the ball on third down” DriveKILLer should be the #3 guy, eventually.
Jones is built like Sterling Sharpe, big strong guy. Catches everything, too.

I believe every catch martin made last year was for a first down(17?), and while james jones is obviously more physically gifted than martin, martin is more than capable of producing as a #3wr. The most intreguing angle here is,if jones is out, how will nelson perform. I think nelson will turn out to be a great pick, but the question is weather or not he can produce right away.
By all accounts nelson is a very good route runner with good hands and a nack for making clutch plays(perfect for a 4th wr/3rd down reciever), he doesn’t have blazing speed, but I think he uses what speed he has to the fullest extent. He has some good elusiveness to him(see his return #s). I can see him being a very strong asset to the packers this year.
All in all I hope james is ready because he would pose more matchup problems for the vikes but no worries, as long as our line gives rodgers a little time I think we will fare well against an unproven secondary of MINUTE
GO PACK GO!

If the Packes weren’t already stacked at WR this would be a big deal. Luckily this is one position in which TT knows what he’s doing.
