As our friends from Rotoworld have noted in the PFT Fantasy Mill, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported on Monday night that the Cincinnati Bengals are shopping veteran tailback Rudi Johnson.
Per Mort, the Bengals want a “real receiver,” given the shoulder injury suffered eight days ago by Chad Johnson.
We’re having trouble buying this one; there’s been no indication that the Bengals want to move Johnson, and if they were serious about trading Rudi Johnson for a “real receiver” they likely would have done it without suffering the negative P.R. hit arising from the decision to bring back a “real turd” like Chris Henry.

I wish them luck. Rudi would have a tough time making the Notre Dame squad at this point.

False. If he can’t play for the Bengals, he can’t play for anyone.

No one wants a worn out RB when there are plenty of young UDFA backs for teams to bring in for cheap, and without having to lose a WR. But ignoring all of that, is Cincy really going to put all their hopes on Chris Perry being able to play this season without getting injured at some point?

And we should believe Mort, why? I mean, he’s a liar after all. LOL!
Bungles ain’t never gonna get it right. Browns are falling apart and Ravens still don’t have a healthy stud at QB. I guess Steelers take all.
Doesn’t matter. Go Pats!

Mortenson is a HACK! He has to make this crap up just to have something to say since he has no real stories to report. It was his ‘comments’ that set Chad off on his summer of trade demands. Before the Bengals played a national TV game last year, Mort came on and said several things about Chad, and then that Chad has 4 years left on his deal in Cincinnati, and someone inside the Bengals organization told me that they will have to make a decision about his future with the Bengals in the next 3 years or so. Well DUH! It was not because he had done anything that they were upset about, it was just that he would basically be in the last year of his contract, so OF COURSE they would need to evaluate how he fits in THREE YEARS! It was the next day that Chad started saying that if he was a cancer, to cut him out, etc, etc, etc. Mort BLOWS!

no way. He’s hurt…and over-the-hill. Not to mention the supposed number one Chris Perry can’t play more then two games without taking a year and a half-off.
And besides…who the heck would trade a “real receiver” for rudi??
If he’s being shopped, how about for a d-lineman or a linebacker with more than a year under their belt…or a vet corner that doesn’t give up a 50-yarder every ten plays…or maybe another running back. Geesh. Palmer can throw to anybody.

this story makes 0 sense. none at all. the bengals know that rudi’s washed up. He runs with no purpose. he’s ran like that when he was healthy last season and ran like that all of the season before that. He was looking for a big contract, and that was it. People have to know that he’s a joke of a running back. there are no teams in desparate need for an hb that have even a legitimate #2 receiver lol. Unless you count Devin Hester..

Mr. Florio,
When you say Bengals, you mean Mike Brown. Whether Rudi is being shopped or not, it tells you his days are numbered in Bengal land. What’s pathetic here is that Mike Brown believes anyone would give him a quality receiver for a guy who averaged 2.9 yards/carry last season. Rule one of trading: in order to get value, you must give up something of value. This is a last-ditch attempt to salvage value from a guy the Bengals will cut.
Plus, Rudi stays out of jail. Clearly not a Bengal.

Rudi is not going anywhere. Stacey Andrews should be going
straight out of this league. He is a big fat sissy in pads.
Who puts a franchise tag on a back up anyway? Mike Brown
thats who.

Mike Brown pulled off Rudi for Roy Williams on Madden ‘09 yesterday afternoon during lunch, so naturally he thinks he can get this done.

@jmikeh
hahahaha, good one!
Also, Rudi has no value whatsoever. They should have shopped him 2 years ago when he was still a solid running back.

How high can the demand for Rudi be? You’ve got Shaun Alexander sitting on the market, if teams wanted a veteran running back I’m sure they’d go after Shaun without dumping a “legitimate” receiever on Cinci.
