The defensive line generated a lot of pressure in a 12-10 loss to the Steelers.
“It was a great stepping stone for us,” DT Kevin Williams said. “We got some runs leaked out on us the first two games. Just to [remove] all the doubt about the run defense. It’s there.”
Artis Hicks got time at left tackle with the first-string offense; the Vikings want him to have experience there in case starting LT Bryant McKinnie gets suspended.
RB Adrian Peterson had just 21 yards on 12 carries.
QB Tarvaris Jackson and WRs Bernard Berrian and Sidney Rice all missed the game.
Jackson probably won’t play in the preseason finale but said there is “no doubt at all” he will play in the regular season opener.
The absence of Jackson makes the Vikings glad they acquired Gus Frerotte.
Rookie John David Booty appears to be leading the race for the No. 3 quarterback spot.
Attendance was 62,625, giving the Vikings their 106th consecutive sellout.
Former Vikings P Greg Coleman, now one of the team’s radio commentators, was shaken up by the death of Gene Upshaw.

I thought the Vikings outplayed the Steelers last night and that was without Jackson even. The Steelers pulled it out using Leftwitch against the Vikings 3rd stringers. The new Viking defensive line started gelling last night, and it will be ugly for opposing QB’s this season. They were really dominating at times.
Peterson didn’t gain much but he will. Give the Steeler’s credit, their 3-4 defense is hard to run against and Peterson didn’t play much in the second half either.
Booty even looked decent. I think the Vikings looked good and would have looked even better with Jackson.

JimmySmith, come on now, you remember how you had to pinch a
Travaris and how much better you felt afterwards, that Jackson.

PurpleNGold, I think you’re mistaking him for Najeh Davenport, but who can blame you– I’m sure you’ve seen a lot of that type of stuff up in Green Bay…

Why is the Metrodome capacity going down? It used to be over 64,000 were required for a sell out. Now they claim 62K is a sell out. The Metrodome is one of the smallest NFL stadiums and last season had to have the local broadcast affiliate buy tickets to bail them out a number of times to prevent blackouts.
The Vikings with all their criminal arrests (led NFC in Turdwatch last season) are not liked by the local population. They can’t build a new stadium, are the lowest in the NFL in revenue, they lose money with the new ownership group having to kick in more money each season to keep the franchise afloat. They have the highest debt ratio in the league.
The Vikings should be moving a couple of years to a city where larger revenues are available. Las Vegas, Mexico City, rtc

Bob Nelson,
You paint a pretty bleak picture. Why are the local citizens so upset with the criminal element on the team, they flew in the hookers from out of state for the Love Boat cruise, its not like the players are sexually abusing the local girls or anything.
I would think that Mike Tice spend his ill gotten gains from scalping his allotment of Superbowl tickets in the local economy, a benefit to the local economy.
Lastly, who could blame the local citizens for not buying tickets, they are likely shrewd consumers who are waiting for the management to hire a football coach with a IQ higher than their QB’s career rating before they plunk down their hard earned cash.

Lol… who wants to go to a preseason game? The Vikings couldn’t sell it out so they asked for help. So what? I wouldn’t go to a preseason game if tickets were $1.99. Once the starters are taken out for the game, I find it hard to keep watching on TV. I applaud those who actually go out there and see it. Even if you lived in the Twin Cities, Tickets+Gas+Parking+Concessions are at least $100. That’s too much for a game that has no meaning.
And as a Vikings fan, I have to admit, JimmySmith has some of the funniest shit ever in his posts. PFT needs to post more Vikings stuff so my team’s troll can try to boil the blood of the Viking faithful. You need to find something better than making fun of the Love Boat incident to get me angry. Try using something more recent than 2005.

funkydunkleman,
My gig is up, I only try to stir things up to get the stupid BIQUEENs (and there appears to be no shortage of them) to respond with their equally stupid posts (Jackson is a MVP QB, AP will gain 2500 yards –he is that good, but the O line is not, and my favorite, the BIQUEENs will win the Superbowl).
The BIQUEENs cannot win the Superbowl, it will ruin the punch line to my favorite joke, “What’s the difference between the MN BIQUEENs and Linda Lovelace?” Linda doesn’t choke on the big one.
