As it turns out, the San Diego Chargers might not get the benefit of playing their first two games against teams whose No. 1 wideouts are out of commission.

In Week One, the Chargers play the Panthers, who suspended receiver Steve Smith for two games after he brokeded the nose of teammate Ken Lucas.  In Week Two, the Chargers play the Broncos, whose top wideout, Brandon Marshall, was suspended at least two games for violation of the Personal Conduct Policy.

But Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that the Broncos are optimistic Marshall’s suspension will be cut to one game based on an upcoming appeal hearing in New York.  Marshall’s lawyer, Harvey Steinberg, will travel to the league offices and make the case for cutting the penalty.
