With Tom Brady sidelined, Matt Gutierrez appeared to take the lead in the backup quarterback race, going 14-of-20 for 217 yards and two touchdowns in a loss to the Eagles.
WR Wes Welker left the game after suffering a rib injury on a first-quarter punt return.
Said coach Bill Belichick of Gutierrez, “He took a few hits, but he stepped up and threw the ball.”
Belichick hugged Asante Samuel after the game.
Said Samuel of the way Patriots fans treated him,”They love to hate me. They love me, they miss me, but I’m not with them so they hate me.”
Patriots fans shouldn’t expect to see Brady until the regular season starts.
Said CB Ellis Hobbs, “Right now, as far as we’re concerned we’re 0-3 in the preseason, but we’re still 0-0.”
The offense rushed 20 times for 65 yards, including a 22-yard scramble by QB Matt Cassel, which is the longest running play of the preseason for the Patriots.
C.J. Jones had three catches for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Said Heath Evans of the kickoff return touchdown the Patriots allowed, “that one was my fault.”
DE Mike Wright started in place of Ty Warren.
The Patriots deferred after winning the coin toss for the third straight game.

You should give a link to the Chicken Littles on the Patsfans.com message board calling for a losing season, since the team is 0-3 in these highly important preseason games.

No Brady and the missing key O-Linemen means
no big deal about the outcome for the Pats.

It’s concering to me that the Patriots second and third string has not been able to beat any of the 1st string teams thus far.

When a team infuses some youth, you have to expect a step backwards here and there! The offense will be fine when Light, Neal and Tom Brady gets back.
The first team D is concerning me somewhat, mainly because they can’t get off the field! What makes it worse is watching Cassel’s 3 and outs! Time of possesion has been horible!
The Pats d is a 2 gap 3-4. There’s a new MLB rookie and a new secondary. I really don’t expect nuch from them yet! It’s not who’s hot now, but who’s hot in DEC., Jan., and most importantly Feb…
They dont look like a team that won 18 of 19 last year. Some concern, but really it’s very early in the process!

So, we lose Tank Williams for the season on a special teams play, and now Welker gets hurt on special teams - in pre-effing-season! I mean, I know it’s a thing with the Pats that just about everybody does ST duty, but it seems like such an unnecessary risk to key players.

Is Brady practicing? If not, why isn’t this a big deal?

agreed MaineMan: why is ellis hobbs still returning kicks? didnt they draft matt slater for a reason?
the o-line is starting to concern me. there’s no guarantee that neal or light will be back anytime soon and their replacements have looked mediocre at best. i think with a little more practice time john welbourne could provide some stability at guard, but no one has shown the ability to step up at left tackle if light is out. its troubling that o’callaghan hasnt been able to pass kazcur on the depth chart, considering how bad kazcur has looked so far.

The entire 1st unit of the D has yet to play together, coupled with vanilla coverages.
Brady isn’t the QB right now, enough said.
However, it was nice to see at least one of the backups look like they want to be the actual number 2 QB.
The O line is most concerning to me and that could very well be that bad taste that’s still in my mouth from Feb 3rd.
