With the initial cut-down day coming on Tuesday, August 26, the Eagles have dropped from 80 players to 77, leaving them two above the limit at the looming deadline.
Gone are receiver Frantz Hardy, fullback Luke
Lawton is the most seasoned of the three. He played in 11 games with the Colts in 2007, and though he didn’t appear in any of the games in 2006 he was a member of the Super Bowl-winning franchise. He spent 2005 with the Jets.
Lawton was traded to the Eagles in June for a conditional 2009 draft pick. The condition presumably was Lawton making the team, and the Eagles presumably opted that they prefer the pick to the player.
The Eagles will be required to dump two more by Tuesday.

this is confusing. for a team that rarely uses the fullback, let alone rarely uses an I-formation in the running game (yes they used it a lot for a series but only to give hunt a good look) they seem to be on a carousel since the first mini-camp. they don’t value the position but they seem to be obsessing over it suddenly.
they’re doing such weird things. they brought in lawton who didn’t have much experience. they did the kleko experiment and tossed that out quickly. they have the undrafted free agent guy in davis from last year who is the secret heir-apparent we’re all gonna be wow-ed by. but then suddenly jed collins this year is some unknown who is quickly jumping up the charts out of nowhere. oh yeah and remember the book on kris wilson is he’s the converted tight end to fullback converted back to tight end and converted back again to /fullback/h-back/tight end only to never play. and then, they take a tailback and decide to run him at fb after 3 days of practice.
they don’t even use the damn fullback. seriously, this is just weird.

this feels like last year’s punt returner situation. I got the solution- best potential fullback on the roster? Joe “headbuster” Mays. They need to get that guy on the field.
Can you imagine Joe Mays openning holes for Westbrook? He’d take out 2-3 guys everytime.

It is obvious that the Eagles are attempting to enhance their running game, with a back like westbrook I am sure that they’re trying to get a MVP caliber season from 36-West.
I mean what is so confusing about that? They got booker to better spell B-west when he is tired and now they’re trying to find a top fullback to clear pathways for Westbrook.
To me it is that simple, and Joe Mays needs to stay at LB. He is a promising linebacker and should continue to work on his craft.
I saw good things from Tony Hunt in the game against the Pats to indicate that he should continue his role at fullback. I mean sure he needs to work on the little things, but you have to expect that from a guy who never played the position before.

For a position that is rarely used they sure are having a hard time filling it. They’re only replacing Thomas Tapeh. He was worthless so it can’t be that difficult. Apparantly this roster spot is more important for the special teams play it needs to fill and so far Hunt has produced more.
