Michael Richardson, a former NFL cornerback best known for playing on the Super Bowl XX-winning 1985 Bears, faces up to 13 years in prison for a probation violation, the Associated Press is reporting.
Per the AP, Richardson has had 21 drug convictions in his life.
The latest issue for Richardson, who was in the “Super Bowl Shuffle,” is that he was charged this week in Orange County, California, with associating with a known drug user and failing to register as a drug offender. The alleged known drug user is his girlfriend.
After past run-ins with the law, former Bears teammates and coaches, including Richard Dent and Mike Ditka, have written letters to judges on Richardson’s behalf.
Richardson played seven seasons in the NFL, six with the Bears and one with the 49ers.

So which Michael Richardson has been arrested on more drug charges? Michael Richardson of the Bears or the Michel Ray Richardson of the NBA (Rockets and Nets I think) who was arrested numerous times in the 80’s for drug charges. Anybody know which MR is the worst? Anybody know if either MR started off smoking weed or did they just skip straight to the hard stuff?

13 years for having a druggie girlfriend? Are they serious? With all the horrible stories I hear about over-crowding in jails and violent criminals’ sentences being reduced as a result, why the Hell would the system bust somebody’s balls for having a girlfriend?
The system needs a huge overhaul. Somebody important is just going to have to face facts and admit America’s War on Drugs was too idealistic and resulted in more bad than good. Jails are so full of drug offenders that going to jail doesn’t even mean what it used to. Now kids associate jail with “street cred” instead of violent scum unfit for society.
Give Michael Richardson a break…
