Rookie RB Matt Forte played well in a loss to the 49ers.
RB Kevin Jones had an impressive debut in his first game action after suffering a torn ACL last year.
Said coach Lovie Smith of QB Kyle Orton’s performance, “He’s our quarterback, and I think he can play good football for us, but it was good to see him validate that tonight.”
Said Smith of the defense, “I’m completely disappointed with our entire effort. I thought we’d get that swagger back.”
Smith also said, “We’re a better defense than that.”
WR Rashied Davis looks like he’s developing chemistry with Orton.
Said LB Hunter Hillenmeyer, “I don’t remember being a part of a worse effort by a defense. I know I played poorly. Makes me sick to my stomach, the way we played.”
Defensive coordinator Bob Babich described himself as “very disappointed.”
Said S Mike Brown, “We wanted to come out and show what kind of defense we’re going to be. If we play like that, we’re obviously going to be a pretty bad defense.”
LB Rod Wilson was carted off the field after breaking his arm.
Garrett Wolfe fumbled a kickoff to set up a 49ers touchdown.
DT Dusty Dvoracek finally got on the field after missing the first two preseason games with a calf injury.

Heh, after that game, I’d say Peyton can take a game off and rest the knee (not that it needs it).

Bears fans keep saying the defense is back, I don’t know. Maybe you just don’t have it anymore. Which is too bad, because without that defense you have absolutely nothing going for you. Accept hester….

It was a conspiracy by the 49ers to make Kyle Orton look good.
I don’t know why, but since they were trying to make Aaron Rogers look bad last week, they obviously planned ahead of time to make Kyle Orton look good.

Next week, “two school punching bags fight over the last computer in the lab.”
Sighs. someday, it wont hurt so bad to love the Bears. Someday…

um you people do realize it was a pre-season game right? sure the defense didn’t look to good but I am pretty sure they won’t be that bad when the season starts and the niners won’t be that good. if jim sorgi is your qb then you better stop making cracks about the bears qb!I never thought anything would top the 85 superbowl for me but when the bears beat the colts and I go to work dressed in my bears gear the next day that will do it! no more having “our” colts shoved down my throat! and no just because I live in Indiana does make them my team nor will they ever be!even if the bears turn into the dolphins this year the colts will not be my team!

The D was lousy, but I will worry about that come regular season (I will hold out faith that they still have it). They did hold real well in the redzoneI was pleased with the O line play and with Davis and with Olsen. Kyle looked great…much improved while Rex at #2 was a big pile of it…Holy cow. I was not to dissapointed but I did not think the overall run game was as good as some writers have made it out to be. As far as Jones…..hmmm; Garrett Wolf looked good in the first PS game, but not since. I am far from jumping on his (Jones) bandwagon yet. Forte was better than last week…..Manning and the special teams blocking was terrific. I was most impressed with Kyle though…..stable and smart. Go Bears

It is a good thing the offense looked good, because the defense looked terrible. Urlacher whiffed several times on a RB I never heard of. Vernon Davis is going to burn most LBs, but the Bears stopped nothing the 49rs offense was trying to do. The 49ers. UH OH Chicago.
Urlacher never was a better middle linebacker than Ray Lewis. he should be playing OLB with Briggs in the middle, the other guy in Briggs spot. He can cover, and he is a very good pass rusher, but is too tall to take on blocks in the middle, and I remember Tom Brady juking him out O his shoes in the open feild. He would be much better playing ROLB like Derrick Brooks’s role in the Tampa 2.

Vikes fan here, but is anyone in Chicago talking about the loss of Rivera as D-coordinator as a cause here? Other than age and injury, that seems to me to be a major factor. You can say pre-season all you want, but that was the 49ers they were playing, a team with a worse QB situation than the Bears. Orton did look okay at least.

the offense looked good but will they allowed to run this kind of offense once the games count? they said the same things at last years camp then went to the same predictable offense once the season began.
