Our friends at KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh (actually, we don’t really know them, but they seem nice) report that the Steelers and linebacker James Farrior are close to working out a contract extension.
Farrior is entering the last year of his current deal. He’s due to earn a base salary of $3.24 million in 2008.
The 1997 first-rounder from Virginia spent five seasons with the Jets before joining the Steelers in 2002. He has started all but four regular-season games in his six years with the Steelers.
Per the report, the deal could come as soon as tomorrow, and likely will be hammered out before Saturday’s game against the Vikings.
The Steelers typically don’t negotiate contracts with current players once the regular season opens.

Awesome! The Steelers are free to sign LB’s in their mid-30’s to fat contract extensions all they want! Get that new deal done!

I agree iron_city. I just love how someone left you a 1 rating for your comment before my 5 to give you a 3. Glad to see someone left a low score for you but couldn’t muster a response.

farrior is the smarts behind the steelers defense. polamalu is my favorite defender out there, but farrior is the captain of the defense. even tho hes againg, his play doesnt show it. hes willing to take less money so he can stay with the black and gold. im happy to see him stay, because I wouldnt want to play against him. nice work by colbert and the front office

Very surprising, seeing the Steelers history with linebackers on the other side of 30. Farrior’s been solid his whole career there, and unlike some players, he lets his actions on the field speak for themselves.

The Steelers front office has been slow getting this year’s re-signings underway. Farrior should be a good deal, if they don’t go too high. Now they have to figure out what they want to do on the O-Line. Who will they sign to play left tackle next year?

Great move. This might not bode well for Larry Foote, unless Farrior eventually takes on the backup role. I don’t see that happening any time soon, though.

B-Dawk, I’m right here and I aint going nowhere. Now tell me please, what linebacker on your bumass team has been on your team as long as Farrior has been on the Steelers team, let alone a defensive linemen. Its called stability jackass.

B-Dawk,
Q: Why doesn’t Allentown get an NFL team?
A: Because then Philly would want one too
Q: How many Eagles does it take to win a Superbowl?
A: The world may never know
you should feel honored to read such a great post like this, and not garbage post about the stupid, overrated, barely winning 4 games eagles. please like i said before, win a superbowl or 2 and then maybe you can talk. maybe if you and mustbechris and chirs from philly would stop playing ass-grab with eachother every sunday you would realize how horrible of a city/team you have!
GOOOOO STEELERS!

At this point Farrior is a step slow and can’t drop into coverage effectively anymore. A mistake unless he is signing a low end deal to be a back up in the future.

You hit the nail on the head when you called Philly a trashy city. I have the unfortunate pleasure of living in this hell hole and having to hope not to get shot every time I walk outside. Also I have to hear about how every possible WR is going to become an Eagle. It’s annoying to say the least.
Good signing (should it happen) by the Steelers if it’s for about two years, by then they will have someone else who will be ready to take over the defense.

For anyone who calls this a bad signing please look at Farrior’s stats last year and he hasn’t done anything different this preseason. he’s a very under rated player in this league and the leader of the best defense in the league last year, not just anyone can do that.

Q: Why is it that everytime Clevelandsucks posts a reply, it’s usually followed immediately by IC Buttpounded?
A: Because 1) they are one in the same which is so pathetic, or 2) they’re homo lovers who are sharing the same computer.
Q: Why is it that every story posted about the Eagles this/these little dweeb fags are the first to show up?
A: Because nobody cares about their team or their second rate city so they have to try to make himself/theirselves noticed by posting idiotic comments to get attention….. you sad, lonely, pathetic little loser!

@MJM1977
Steelers have been dropping their over 30 OLB’s. Those players are easily replaceable (see Pro-Bowl Joey Porter replaced by Pro-Bowl James Harrison). They ask their MLB’s to do a lot more than just rush the passer.

Are you trying to tell me Philly isn’t a second rate city? If so that’s a joke. Philly is nothing compared to New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles, sorry to break it to you Philly but you are second rate as well. But first rate when it comes to homeless people, gun violence and overall filth.

Farrior’s in the best shape of his life… but good to see Cleveland Turdstain losers like OCDawg try to rip on him. Maybe he should be more worried about Cleveland’s linebacker flops like Beau “The Bust” Bell.
Q: Who will contribute more this year — Farrior or Bust Bell?

trying …. hard…. to.. stop……… can’t…. resist..the… temptation….. must …. join.. in…..
i’ve been to philly twice, and the one thing no one can argue with is the fact that the city actually smells. i mean as soon as you get about 12 miles from the city limits, you can not have your car windows down. it really reeks, and how anyone could live there is way beyond me. as far as how any philly team could still have fans is even a stranger mystery. what championships, in any sports, have you brain dead farts ever had? oh, villanova won something one time? even players on your own teams hate you, ie jimmy rawlins. there’s not even an argument. when it comes to sports, any clear-thinking fan would agree pittsburgh is light years ahead of philly. and philly could win the world series this year(yeah right!), the flyers could win the cup(sure!), and the eagles could win back to back super bowls(ok, wake up now!), and philly as a sports town would never be in pittsburgh’s league.
now you can go back to making your highly intelligent “homo” comments.
