One of the last remaining NFL holdouts could be ending.
Per Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com, Rams running back Steven Jackson is heading to St. Louis in an effort to work out a new contract with the team.
The move is described as a good-faith effort by Jackson to solve the problem.
He’ll be accompanied by his agent, and the goal is to get a deal done within the next 24-to-48 hours.
Jackson is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He presumably wants to haul in a big-money deal before continuing to expose himself to chronic injury.
And the Rams need him. They have been listless on offense in the preseason, and quarterback Marc Bulger has looked mediocre, at best.
Jackson is subject to fines that currently approach $400,000. It’s unknown whether the fines will be enforced or waived.

This is another Favre-esque situation (and on a non-Favre based summer, this probably would’ve been one of/the top stories). Either side could’ve swallowed their pride a while ago and gotten Jackson into camp.
Jackson has vastly outperformed his rookie contract and deserves a new deal. The team has no other starting-caliber RBs behind him. Perhaps the new ownership doesn’t yet realize how much talent costs.
I’m not a Rams fan or anything, but it seems like this should’ve been resolved already.

He might not be the Fantasy Beast he usually is,
like Larry Johnson after his holdout last year.

“quarterback Marc Bulger has looked mediocre, at best.”
Marc Bulger has always looked mediocre and if he continues to play I could see him beating Brett Favre for career INT. He’s a worse version of Drew Bledsoe but has had the benefit of two great receivers his career starting for them.

Steven Jackson is the only thing the Rams really have going for them on offense. However, I’m just getting sick of all these contract holdouts. Dude, you signed a contract. By holding out on contract, these players just make the statement that their word is worth nothing. Hopefully the new CBA will eliminate this situation. Seems like the contract hold-outs are just getting worse every year, and now every team has a guy or two holding out for better deals while still under contract. That’s just ridiculous.

The implementation of a rookie pay scale would help with these type of holdouts. It certainly wouldn’t do away with them, though, since slightly above average players seem to cash in every year during free agency.

I am a Rams fan and we need his a$$ in the worst way. Bulger needs him, the defense needs him, the OLine needs him, Linehan needs him and Zygmunt and Georgia’s kids need him ’cause this team is close to bottoming out. We’re not the mess that ATL or SF is but we seriously need to start playing like it matters. Martz for all of his nonsense, and I can’t stand him, at least had energy about him that infected the team.
