An MRI has revealed that Browns receiver Josh Cribbs has a high ankle sprain, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Cribbs likely will miss the final two preseason games. Syndric Steptoe will replace Cribbs as the team’s kick return specialist.
Whether Cribbs is ready for Week One remains to be seen. High ankle sprains can take awhile to come around, and less than three weeks likely won’t be enough time to get Cribbs back to 100 percent.

High ankle sprain is not the news I was looking for. Those definitely have a tendency to linger. Anyone who watched Browns games last year knows that there were not five more valuable players on the team that Joshua Cribbs. Anytime the Browns needed a big play he seemed to be Johnny on the spot with a big return to flip field position. The positive news for Browns fans is that Steptoe looks like he can at least be a capable return man, and Cribbs should hopefully be full strength by week 3 or 4 in a worst case scenario.
I know the mentality of Browns fans is always feel like the sky is falling…but I still say it’s not. This is a talented team that will still have the positive season everyone is expecting. Super Bowl? That’ll be really tough. But winning the AFC North is well within reach and, in my mind, expected.

With a name like that, we better keep him away from Edward’s feet.
Brownie points for the first person to somehow find a way to make a connection between a high ankle sprain and a staph infection…
