When Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora flattened Browns quarterback Derek Anderson on Monday night, Cleveland fans everywhere gasped.
As it turns out, the violent hit did only limited damage to Anderson.
According to James Walker of ESPN.com, Anderson has a “mild” concussion.
Anderson is expected to be ready for the Browns’ regular-season opener against the Cowboys.
Which of course has prompted Brady Quinn to mutter, “Newman.”

Have you actually SEEN Derek Anderson since he was hit? Maybe the browns are lying. Maybe its more severe than you are being lead to believe. Maybe he’s dead and is being reanimated with micro-technology. Until you have pictures of Anderson moving around, walking, talking, not wearing a neck brace, Im pretty sure we’re going to have to assume the worst. If he is alive, maybe he has a staph infection. Maybe he’ll be too slow to out run Crennel and get eaten. When’s the funeral?

I’m not buying it and I know you aren’t either Florio. It seemed he was favoring his right shoulder(or was it his left?) when he went down. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a dislocated shoulder.
I, along with Florio, will assume the worst until we see with our own eyes, Derek Anderson walk ten feet on his hands!

Giants first team defense completely shut down Cleveland and that overated QB Anderson. Giants did Browns a favor by knocking him out of maybe enough games for them to let Brady Quinn take over. Anderson on his own last year cost the Browns a playoff spot with his horrible effort vs. Cinci. when a win would have put them in.

If we have learned anything at all about the NFL over the years…especially recently, thanks to the Pats and Colts…it is: never believe anything the teams say about injuries. There is a good chance that we won’t see D.A. again until the regular season. Why even speculate about if he’ll be there or not? We’re not going to get any reliable information, so we might as well just move on and discuss something that we can accurately asses.
Such as…
In the unfortunate situation that D.A. is out for an extended period of time, is there another team in the NFL with a better situation in terms of a backup? No, we haven’t seen Brady Biceps in any real meaningful games, but as a Browns fan, I would still feel confident that we could win if he was starting. He doesn’t throw the deep ball as well as D.A., so our offense might not be as explosive and Braylon’s fantasy stock might take a hit, but I think this team would function just fine. It certainly would not be close to the dropoff that the Colts or Patriots would experience if Brady or Manning was out.
Hopefully D.A. is ready for the opener though. He’s got a great shot to get back to the Pro Bowl with all of the offensive weapons and a year of experience under his belt.

Quinn lost by holding out. He can throw for Marino numbers in a preseason game and he’ll still be looking like the American Dream holding a clipboard when the season starts. Anderson earned the spot fair and square and the team knows they can win with him. No chance they throw him under the bus.

They also saw him choke BADLY and single-handedly cost the Browns the game against the Bengals with the playoffs on the line with a win.

I just watched the Browns vs. Giants highlights. In the play where Osi sacked Anderson, it’s obvious that Osi layed off while Anderson was on the way to the ground. He even put both hands down to lessen impact, and then just slid over the top of Anderson.
