It’s a good thing that the Browns are wearing dark brown pants tonight. Because the early results of their Monday night game against the Giants has likely prompted more than a few of them to experience a certain, um, intestinal release.
The Browns are being shredded by the Giants, who are leading 30-3 early in the second quarter.
To make matters worse, quarterback Derek Anderson was flattened moments ago by Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora, and initially looked to be hurt. He was able to walk off the field under his power. Later, he left for the locker room for evaluation as to whether (and to what extent) he has a concussion.
So the only good thing about this game for the Browns is that it doesn’t count.
And that’s too bad for Domenik Hixon, who has caught two touchdown passes and returned a free kick after a safety for another score.
On Monday, October 13, these two teams will get together again in Cleveland.

Florio, come on now. The charges on this guy were dropped. Dropped worse than a ball thrown to one of the candidates to replace Henry. We need this guy.
Additionally, by ridiculing this move, you’re essentially promoting the ability of random kids being able to make any allegation they please toward NFL players to get money. You don’t blackball a guy because of “history,” *especially* when we were giving him another chance for his previous history. The latest incident is legally irrelevant.

[sarcasm]The good news for Browns fans is that their revamped DL is applying pressure and their near-worst secondary from last year seems to be pretty solid.[/sarcasm]
OK, OK. It’s pre-season, but it is fun to watch.

Maybe for the people living in a cave whose only link to the outside world is reading the headlines in PFT Rumor Mill. The rest of the world will probably be able to tell the difference….

Saying it’s “only the preseason” is a lame cliche. Of course, it’s a cliche because it’s true. There is no need to get worked up over the first quarter tonight. In fact, I think there are some positives from a Browns fan perspective.
Think about how badly the Browns looked against Pittsburgh last year. It took them a few games to get going. As far as I am concerned, the Browns are just getting their mulligan out of the way. There has been so much talk of AFC North titles and Super Bowl runs (courtesy of Donte Stallworth and millions of giddy Browns fans everywhere) that people forget that despite the Browns success from last year, they accomplished nothing. No division title, no playoff appearance…just a bunch of Pro Bowl seasons.
For this talented team to translate all of their potential into significant winning, they have to stay hungry and focused. They looked to be neither tonight, but I think this game should give Romeo and the coaching staff all of the ammunition they need to keep brash players like Braylon and Kellen humble and hungry.
Is it ever good to get manhandled on national TV? No. But the sky is not falling. And if the Browns coaching staff can use this game the right way, it could be one of those turning points that players talk about late in successful seasons as being very important to their ultimate success.
We shall see. I still think the Browns win the AFC North.
