At a time when the new regime in Miami is thinking about throwing overboard a second-round pick from 2007, could they also be contemplating parting ways with the No. 2 overall pick from the 2005 draft?
Per Chris Mortensen of ESPN (via Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald), it’s possible that Fins tailback Ronnie Brown could be playing elsewhere in 2008.
Mort says that Brown has been “struggling” in the preseason. Meanwhile, Ricky Williams has been looking like he’s poised for a late-career rebirth.
Brown is due to earn a base salary of $3.65 million in 2008. Williams is scheduled to earn only $730,000.
If the Fins move Brown, it’s the surest sign of Bill Parcells’ intention to turn the organization upside down. And, frankly, it’s exactly what the organization needed.

I’m happy for Ricky…must be all the pot he smokes that makes him run harder. LEGALIZE IT ALREADY.

It didn’t seem to me Salguero was agreeing with Mortenson…it seemed more like he was ridiculing him for weakly stating it, therefore, compromised his credibility.
And Salguero doesn’t claim to have broken this, so I’m confused where your “via Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald” comes from. I will admit I’m not sure which comes first in the hierarchy of priority, per or via, but this doesn’t seem to be anything more than a filler comment.

I think getting rid of Ronnie would NOT be “exactly what the organization needs.” In fact, I think it would be stupid. Look at the year he was having before his knee injury last season. He can’t be expected to return to that form this season. Injured thumb aside, give the guy until next season before making a decision. I think Ronnie has a lot of football left. The team’s going to put their trust in Ricky Williams? C’mon now. Plus, Ronnie’s as solid a person as any team is going to find. The pluses outweight the minuses in keeping him.

The link to the Armando article is from the Miami Herald’s blog site. If there were any validity to this, Im sure it would’ve been in an actual column.
There’s no way the Fins let one of the few non-busts from the 05 Draft go. Even if Ricky does well and carries the load by himself, he’s 31. Brown is 25 and prior to his injury last year, looked like one of the top 5 backs in the league.

Ridiculous. Ricky has one last year n his contract this year and he is one bad decision away from banishment. Ronnie Brown is recovering from a shredded ACL. He will be fine soon enough. Just ridiculous. Maybe this is another ploy to motivate him but he left the season averaging 5.1 yds/carry on his way to a sure pro bowl and then at the second preseason game he is a throwaway back second to Williams. STUPID.

Wow…that would be unbelievable. I’m still a big Ricky Williams fan, so I’m excited that he is looking good in the preseason, but it was less than a year ago that Ronnie Brown was the most productive back in the league through the first 6 or 7 weeks. I know he has a high cap number, but in the this era of running back duos, you would think the Dolphins would give Ronnie some time to recover from his injury (especially considering that they have Ricky to carry the load). With Ronnie and Ricky healthy in 2009 the Dolphins could have an outstanding backfield duo to build around and take pressure off of whichever Chad (Pennington or Henne) is playing QB.

This seems very odd considering the season Ronnie was poised to have last year before injury, he must not be healing well at all.

ronnie brown another auburn bust along with cadillac williams
carlos rogers, etc. Brown was a backup, i dont know why
saban wasted #2 overall pick on him, this guy aint a workhorse
back. Parcells is smooth he knows he has ricky at a cheap
salary for 700K, so basically they will use ricky as
their workhorse back, wear him out, and sign a younger guy
in a few years.

Although I’m happy for Ricky I think that in the long run this would be a mistake. Neither Back has proven to be real Durable in terms of playing a full season. Last year, Ronnie Brown was the Dolphins most Dominant Player this side of Jason Taylor and probably hasn’t fully recovered from his injury last year. Bad Move but if they don’t want him I’d be happy to have him on the Buccaneers Roster.

I’m confused on how the Dolphins need to be turned upside-down and cutting Ronnie Brown accomplishes that. All he did was ball out last year on a pathetic team…

Let me get this straight…so you let go of Ronnie Brown and then Ricky decides during the bye week that he truly wants to pursue a career in “agriculture.” Then what do ya got?! Ya got nothin’!! Ricky is the man, but an unreliable man nonetheless. Even Ricky is probably like “Geez! What are these guys smokin’!”

That would be insanity. I am all for roster turnovers, but that would be plain stoooopid.
Ronnie is injury prone, but he was a beast last year until he hurt his knee.

mort is a moron
always has been, always will be
for a team as untalented as the dolphins to release their most talented player because he is in his first year after an acl would be idiotic. clearly. and yet you are now on record agreeing with that philosophy, florio.
last i heard bill parcells hasn’t done anything lately, and, really, ever, without Belichick.
this is really a non-event it seems.
i will eat my keyboard if ronnie brown is cut. but at least i’m a vikings fan, don’t know what the ‘phans would do.

And people wonder why Steven Jackson is holding out. Look at this… what a shame. Brown was having a fantastic year before he went down and now he’s already considered expendable. Shameless. The worst part is that its ultimately his high-pick contract that proved to be his undoing…

Of course Brown has been struggling, he just tore his ACL back in October. It takes a running two years to fully come back from that injury. Getting rid of Brown next year, when he will most likely almost be back at full strength would be idiotic.
