Vikings quarterback Tarvaris Jackson has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL in his knee, a league source tells us.
Jackson injured the knee while being tackled during Saturday night’s game against the Ravens.
He is expected to be able to return for the team’s final preseason game. Already, he’s riding a stationary bike at the team’s facility.
Jackson was 8-4 a year ago as a starter. With defenses focused on running backs Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor, Jackson will be expected to get the ball to open receivers this year.

Oh boy. We do NOT need a starting QB who plays half of every season. He needs to go to the Favre/Manning school of start the games you are supposed to start.

get the following QBs on the phone:
-aaron brooks
-shaun king
-daunte culpepper
-chris leak
any of them are un upgrade over that old fart gus frerrotte and brooks bollinger. The vikes need to upgrade the backup Qb position. Also they need to open up the west coast offense and go for more vertical passing game.

Good thing the Viking signed Gus Ferotte, and aren’t relying on rookies Brian Brohm and Matt Flynn as back-ups.
What team would be dumb enough to do that?

Minor injury, misses one pre season game, big deal.
The BIQUEENS should be far more concerned about his career QB rating is lower than his IQ. Of course, Childress’s IQ is even lower so its not like it makes that much of a difference. 8-8 for 2008 is at least consisent but below the predictions of a certain SI writer who obviously got ahold of some pretty good smoke (maybe Randy Moss sold it to him)

Hey Jimmy….. career QB ratings…come on. You know as well as I do that a QB will maturate most between seasons 1 and 2, in an offense. Now…I do believe that this is Jackson’s second season as the starter. In fact prior to this year (combining 2006 & 2007) he has a total of 16 games under his belt. I thin you should take a look at the pre season QB ratings for the NFC Central Division: A. Rodgers 18 of 31 (58.1%) for 175 yds 1 TD 1 INT sacked 6 times QB rating 71.3 / T. Jackson 15 of 22 (68.2%) 200 yds 2 TD 0 INT QB rating 127.1
Now I know it’s early and all but given those numbers I’ll take Jackson over Rodgers anyday. In fact only 2 other QBs in the NFC Central Division had a worse QB rating than Rogers 71.3, and one of those 2 was Brohm. Thanks for your input though. GO VIKINGS!!!!!

Why has JimmySmith changed “Viqueens” to “BIQUEENS”? What is
his team history? Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

JimmySmith, it looks like Aaron Rogers has figured out how to stay healthy . . . by going 3 and out on almost every possession.
Jackson has been on the field for five possessions in preseason, and led the Vikings to scores on four of them (with three TD passes) against 1st team defenses.

JimmySmith sounds like the same moron who was argueing with me on another sports site that rhymes with CVS that Brett Favre was the 16th best QB in NFL history based on his QB rating, behind such studs as Culpepper (7th) and Pennington (8th) and barely ahead of Brad Johnson (18th) and Brian Griese (21st). I finally shut him up when I pointed out one of the other best QB’s in history, John Elway, was 44th on the list, 4 spots behind the greatness that was Jeff George.

I see the BIQUEEN fans are out in force. The problem with stats is everyone can claim something based on what you pull out to support your arguement. I would like to think that wins count for something and the Packers are 4-0 over the last two seasons. I’ll take that over any QB rating. Just a coincidence, but the BIQUEENs record of 0-4 is the same as their Superbowl record which probably doesn’t hurt half as much as their last two NFC title game appearences, the 15-1 season going up in smoke with a home loss to the Falcons and the other squeaker, 41-0 loss to the Giants.
If the BIQUEENs are the biggest choke team in the history of the NFL, tell me who is??

Jimmy:
The Packers were 4-0 with Fav-ruh at QB. You can throw that out the window now, so you’re argument is baseless. The Vikings records in the Super Bowl and the NFC Championship Games are ancient history now and this is a new era and Aaron Rodgers is the new Lynn Dickey. So have fun with that.

@ JimmySmith - we are all now much smarter for your contributions. Anyways, Jackson has what, 8 wins as a starter? His win percentage is pretty damn good for being so young. How did Peyton do his first couple of seasons? I am in no way saying that Jackson will be the next Manning, but give the kid a break! He was playing i-aa ball in front of 1000 relatively boistrous fans a couple of years ago. Of course, he could have come in halfway through a game and played well for 30 minutes against one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL - then subsequently appointed god (what a resume!!!!) That would definitely make all Vikes fans sleep well…
Anyhoo, he will be fine. I can think of a few teams that have worse quarterback problems: Atlanta, Baltimore, San Francisco, Kansas City, Chicago, Green Bay (no backup….have you been keeping track of how Brohm has been playing???…..wow), Miami, and maybe Oakland depending on how things go this year. There are many teams with moderate quarterback concerns like the vikings: The bills are not all that great with Edwards; Vince Young isn’t turning any heads in Tennessee; will Schaub be consistant with the Texans?; diabetes or not, Cutler hasn’t lived up to the hype; Jason Campbell should start to worry about Brennan; Delhomme’s arm must be ready to fall off by now; can Leinart step it up finally? or will the old man have to show him how to roll again; and Browns fans will kill me, but ONE SEASON! Anderson has not proven to be a consistent performer and still got paid (awesome for him though…); Jon Kitna is well….Kitna; and Bulger has not been playing well of late.
In other words, there are only a handful of teams that are significantly better than the Vikes at the quarterback position, imho: Jacksonville, the Jets, New England, the NFC east minus Washington; Seattle, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, San Diego, New Orleans, Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh. That is 13 teams out of 31 teams that the Vikes are inferior to at the QB position. That would put them in the middle of the pack somewhere in the NFL which is pretty good when you have the best rushing attack and an upgraded receiving corps.

Jimmy….here we go with stats again (this time it is SB wins you want to try and rub in our face). OK, I’ll give you that GB has 3 winds in the “big game” albeit their last one was what about 12 years ago? I thought this article was talking about the here and now, not ancient history. What you packer fans need to worry about is how are you going to keep your QB off his back, aginst Jarred Allen, and not what happened back in “The Day”.

Jimmy Smith, you’re always doing the BIQUEENS remarks. I bet you’re one of those guys who cruises Great Lakes Naval facility wearinf fishnets and trying to pick up a sailor. Didn’t I see you on an episode of “Cops” once??
Last time Rogers took the field, he sucked.
Yeah, he looked really bad - like Greenbay’s season is going to suck - bad. Go ahead and make you’re comments, who knows maybe this is the year the Vikes do it and you come out of the closet.

Jimmy Smith…you’re the last guy on the planet who can question anyone’s IQ. You write like a 5th grader and you’re not funny. It would be different if you were funny.
This is funny. Are you the same Jimmy Smith that is the head of the “Will and Grace” fan club? Wow, so you’ve seen every episode..uh, that’s great - if that’s your thing.
