The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced the acquisition of free-agent defensive end Orpheus Roye.
Roye entered the league as a sixth-round pick of the Steelers in 1996. After four years in Pittsburgh, Roye spent eight with the Browns.
He appeared in 13 games in 2007, starting nine of them.
It’s a one-year deal, most likely for the veteran minimum.
Though Orpheus is a little long in the tooth, he won’t feel out of place in Pittsburgh. Most of the defensive linemen are (or will be) on the wrong side of 30 once the 2008 season begins.

Orpheus was the best wedge buster I’d ever seen when he was a young buck with the steelers. Welcome back, big guy.

Dude might not still have much left in the tank, but damn, if I didn’t already have a name, I would want to be called Orpheus Roye.

Any chance of not adding a snide comment on every Steelers thread, Florio?

All I really remember about Orpheus Roye was seeing him getting leveled by Hines Ward in ‘04. Roye was listed at around 305 at the time, I believe. Hines was around 200, 205. Yeah, put Orpheus on his can. As far as Ward’s hits go, that one is at the top of my list, even ahead of the licks he put on Reed and Scott in 1 game last year…
So anyway, I’m REALLY EXCITED to see this guy brought in, hoping he doesn’t stay long. Seriously, where IS Booger McFarland? Probably going to the Saints since Hollis Thomas is hurt.

Worried about the starting O-line? Not at all, they are a great unit.
Worried about the depth? Absolutely. The 2nd unit is a bunch of 30+ walking wounded bums. They only see the field 10 plays a game or so, but that can be enough….

Welcome to Smog City big guy. Like most of the inhabitants here, you’re old, overweight and probably have difficulty spelling your name.

Goodluck in armpit city. Now the Stealers are using Browns retreads. This division is getting easier for the Bengals by the minute.

mber from as i remeyour completely eronious story from a while back, which you never retracted, hampton is about 38, smith is about 37, and keisel is about 39. meanwhile, according to the same bs story, back ups eason was 43, and kirske was 45. and since no retraction was ever made, i guess you’re sticking to those ages, eh florio?

Shaunypoo… division’s getting easier for the Bengals? Hilarious. It’s really a toss-up as to which fan base (Cleveland or Cincy) the Steelers have enjoyed crushing the hope of on annual basis more.

Enjoy the wave of the past. The Stealers are going to be lucky if Roethisbooger can tango for his life behind that seive you call an O-line, and your D-line may not be able to be moved, but that includes under their own power. Maybe if you greased their fat asses with McDonalds fry grease and perpetually played down hill. The Stealers glory is going to die faster than that rusty dump you call a city. At least Bengals fan are realistic in knowing that there is a possiblility, however slight, that they can win the division. We have done it before. Remember the season you had to cheat your way past the Bengals by blowing Carson’s knee out, and the Super Bowl you played with too many players on the field? They may have been wearing black and white stripes, but they were basically Stealer players.

Hines Ward did knock the snot out of Roye once, didn’t he? I forgot about that….probably since Roye didn’t whine about it when the media baited him.
