A league source tells us that the Patriots have agreed to terms with safety John Lynch.
Lynch, a nine-time Pro Bowler, could assume the role that the team was exploring for Tank Williams, who recently landed on injured reserve with a knee injury. Williams had been practicing at linebacker.
At this stage of his career, Lynch probably is a better fit playing closer to the line of scrimmage. Besides, the team already has a Lynch-style safety in Rodney Harrison.
UPDATE: Coach Bill Belichick opened his press conference by saying that Lynch is not yet under contract. We still stand by our source. Unless our source was wrong. (Hey, it worked for Mort last year.)

You cannot blame the man for wanting to be a part of the greatest dynasty of the 21st century.
Everyone’s jealous. It’s natural.

If I’m the pats, I try Harrison at LB too. He is more physically imposing. Sheesh, if they get both players to know LB, they could flip positions based on the situation.

Broncos game plan for Monday Night Football against the Pats:
1. Throw the ball towards to the receiver that is closest to John Lynch.
2. Run the ball directly at John Lynch.

Jealousy is natural is arrogance thus they must be daily subdued.
Lynch signing with the Patriots is nonplussing since it is highly unlikely he will be a 3 down player. Thus, he left Denver to play the same role in New England. I doubt he contributes much.

Lynch will be a very good situational player for the Patriots and they will be a better team for it. The Patriots aren’t stupid. If they think he can help, he will. You can bet he will be put in a position to maximize his strenghts and not expose his weaknesses.

Before all the patriot haters and jealous little worms out there start crapping all over Lynch - remember he went to the Pro-Bowl last year.
That team just got better and…well…they were pretty F’n good before this.
Ok, Let the Patriot Hate/Jealousy begin in 3……..2………1

“He went to the Pro-Bowl last year,” he says.
Yeah, and so did Champ Bailey and Troy Polamalu, and neither one of them deserved it. The Pro Bowl is a joke, and using that strictly as some sort of talent gauge is tragically misguided.
Glorified popularity contest is all it is. John Lynch got in on name alone. NE has a damn good team to begin with, and having Lynch out there is just a liability.
But please, continue to compare this to the Harrison signing and make other logical fallacies using historical references. He’s old and he gets smoked.

How can this be? After the “mediagate” fiasco, I was told by several “experts” and read on all these message boards that nobody would want to play for New England or for the “evil” Bill Bellichick…

lynch is a depth guy on that team… he’ll play rarely which means it could take until week 8 for him to be placed on the PUP list.

Scottie, believe it or not, not everyone is jealous of your Patriots. I guess you have to say that otherwise you would have to admit that people actually hate them b/c they are arrogant and cheaters who thought they were above the league and would get away with it. No cheating, no super bowl victories. Deal with it.

My only concern is in questioning why the Broncos* cut him. It’s not like they couldn’t fit him under the salary cap since the Broncos cheat on the salary cap anyways.

They’ve already devised a way to intercept the calls from the OC to the QB so signing slow, washed up has beens is not such a bad thing.
When you know what play is being called it negates the speed issue.

Joe6pack:
Lynch was cut because he asked to be released.
Romans58:
Perhap Lynch won’t play anymore with the Pats than with Denver, perhaps the big difference is that the Pats are still one of the top preseason Super Bowl favorites, the Broncos will be lucky to make the playoffs.
Coleslaw:
Again with the HGH references, you are a total imbecile. There is more evidence to support the theory that your mom used heavy drugs while she was pregnant with you than there is of Lynch using HGH.
For all others that think Lynch is too old:
Lynch has played out of position the past few years with Denver at FS, where range and coverage skills are of the utmost importance. Lynch was and always has been best as an in-the-box SS. Even when he was young, Lynch wasn’t known for running stride-for-stride with WRs or even fast TEs, it’s no surprise he looked slow considering he was used in coverage so much.
Lynch is extremely intelligent and a likely future Hall of Famer, if used right he can still be a plus for NE.
