When the Baltimore Ravens visit the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday, September 29, an interesting subplot could result in an on-field explosion.

When the two teams met at Heinz Field on a Monday night in early November of 2007, Steelers receiver Hines Ward blew up on separate occasions Ravens safety Ed Reed and Ravens linebacker Bart Scott.  Ward is notorious for delivering devastating blocks on running plays, often when he and the defender whom he jacks up are well away from the ball carrier.

In response, Scott threatened to “kill” Ward, and also said that, when the teams meet again, Scott would “find him and make sure I take the most violent shot I can take.”

Before the December 30 rematch — and possibly to avoid getting fined or suspended — Scott feigned forgetfulness.  “That was about eight weeks ago,” Scott said.  “I don’t have long-term memory.  That is a defect I was born with; only short-term.  You never noticed I wear a wristband on my hand?  That’s so I can remember the plays.”

When Ward missed the game due to injury, the point became moot.

But, when they meet in 2008, Scott will be looking for him.  Asked Tuesday if revenge is still coming, Scott said, “I never forget.  So, we shall see.”

Apparently, Scott’s deficient long-term memory has caused him to forget about his forgetfulness.
