The Lions reportedly weren’t interested in signing free-agent LeCharles Bentley. Apparently, they weren’t interested in signing Bentley because he wasn’t interested in accepting the contract that the team wanted him to sign.
A league source tells us that the Lions actually offered Bentley a one-year deal worth in excess of $1 million, and that Bentley passed.
As we understand it, several teams are interested in Bentley, but the prevailing attitude is that he should sign a one-year deal for relatively low money in order to prove that he’s healthy. Bentley is looking for more.
Whether he’ll get it or not remains to be seen.

Perhaps LeCharles Bentley and Dante Culpepper should hook up and market themselves a package deal. LeDumbAsses

What in the hell do you propose he does? Offer him a lucrative long term contract so if/when Bentley goes down he looks like a Clown?
Man I swear sometimes Lions fans can’t appreciate jack.

While in some cases its easy to blame Millen, this one isn’t his fault. Even if we weren’t in cap hell, they were smart not to offer LeCharles more then the one million.

If LeCharles can play, he should be a Bengal. Cincy media is already talking shifting the line around to get Guiciak out. Can he stand up to Haloti Ngata, Kelly Gregg, Fat Hampton?

Agree it isnt all his fault but Bentley hasnt done a thing in years now. Too risky to put a lot of coin on him.

Bentley, if he’s lucky, might end up to be a mediocre C. His leg was almost amputated due to the staph infection, and he hasn’t played football in 2 years. I would think the guy would jump at the opportunity to compete and prove himself, but he seems to be acting like something is owed him.

LeCharles should take the best offer he can get. He needs training camp time to prove he can at least make a roster. LeCharles and his agent (if he has one) need to understand reality. The stupidest front office in football (Detroit) has refused to offer him a long term deal. If Matt Millen won’t throw some coin at you, then your only home is the Raiders.
Earth to LeCharles………you are a football player………if you want the big bucks you will first have to PROVE THAT YOU CAN STILL PLAY!!!!! Sign a contract, get into a training camp and block somebody. Until you show that you can play nobody will give you a big deal. Play and prove that you are the LeCharles of old and the world will be yours in six months. If not, grab a shovel and start digging a hole to put your “career” into.
