Per Tom Kowalski at MLive.com, former Saints and Browns center LeCharles Bentley was on hand to visit with Detroit Lions officials today.
The visit went well, but the Lions aren’t interested in signing Bentley. Which makes us curious as to the result of a visit that doesn’t go well. (Maybe they make you watch game film from the second half of last season.)
And so Bentley, a former Pro Bowler at both guard and center who ripped the Saints on his way out of town and then allegedly spurned a verbal agreement with the Eagles to sign with Cleveland in 2005, continues to find himself unemployed.
That the Lions, who have a good center in Dominic Raiola but could use an upgrade at guard and depth, have deemed Bentley unworthy of a contract illustrates just how far his career has fallen since his first day in Browns pads, when a torn patellar tendon was the first domino of terrible luck which eventually erased two seasons.

It went well because his mom was on time to pick him up afterwards.

Bentley probably looked good
the Lions just aren’t in the buisness of signing good players though.

I’m curious to see if the Bengals will go after him since Dan “Father Guido” Santucci went down with and ankle injury and they seem to have little confidence in Eric Guy-Chuck.

I’m a Lions fan and I’ve been wondering why we haven’t brought the guy in before now. Although our first unit offense did well against the Giants in preseason, the OL was clearly the weakest part of the unit. He has to be better than Frank Davis…
It makes me wonder if he’s still looking for a big money contract.

Raiola a good center?! Compared to whom? The Lions are two years and about four surgeries too late on Bentley, but they HAVE TO upgrade at LT and C before they can be legit playoff contenders. Those are the two weakest spots on the line now, not LG (Mulitalo), RG (Peterman), or RT (Cherilus). If Bentley is anywhere close to as good as he used to be, I’d love for the Lions to add him at C right now. Raiola should’ve been a fullback.

But, if they had signed him, just think of all the Eagles fans suggesting this trade package - LeCharles and Lito to for a first.

Bentley got what he deserves. I’m a Steeler fan and even I think he screwed the Browns. Hey LeCharles ! Time to practice “Do you want fries with that?”

Some of you Eagles fans are hilarious. “His luck is as good as his word”?? Seeing as how he signed in Cleveland the first day of Free Agency that year, if he went back on his word, then it constitutes that “T” word that Florio is always talking about. So, I’m not sure I would complain about it much, because if you’re right, then it was an illegal (by NFL rules) practice.
