Said GM Ted Thompson of QB Aaron Rodgers in Monday night’s loss to the Bengals, “I thought he threw the ball very well. Looked calm. I think his balls were pretty much on time. Excellent accuracy.”
Added coach Mike McCarthy, “I saw Aaron just like he is every day. I thought he went out there, he played with excellent energy, which I always recall him playing with. I think he’s done a really good job being consistent.”
Matt Flynn looked better than Brian Brohm in the backup QB battle.
“I thought both young quarterbacks, there’s productivity there,” McCarthy said. “Was it clean? No, it wasn’t clean. But there’s a number of factors going on, and we’ll get that cleaned up.”
Rodgers missed a chance at a big play when he barely overthrew WR James Jones on a post-corner route.
Rodgers seems to have the confidence of his teammates.
Brett Favre wasn’t watching the Packers game.
Rodgers’ numbers would have been better if Donald Driver and Chris Francies hadn’t dropped well-thrown balls.
RB Brandon Jackson ran well, but he screwed up on two blitz pickups.
WR Ruvell Martin was the only injured Packer; McCarthy says Martin’s injury is minor.
Defensive coordinator Bob Sanders says his first-string defense had “a good start.”
Most TV viewers in Wisconsin who want to watch Brett Favre’s Jets preseason debut are out of luck because they don’t have NFL Network.

Am I the only one who noticed the Green Bay crowd on the opening series last night? What a great display of class and team loyalty. It’s to bad #4 wasn’t watching, he could have learned what it really is like to be a team player. The Green Bay fans were truly much better than their X QB

At the end of the game Rodgers had a short interview. You could tell a lot of weight was lifted off his shoulders. Even though it’s only a pre-season game, Rodgers along with the Packers had a nice Lambeau welcome. Welcome aboard Rodgers. Oh, and what pretty balls you have!

Well said! The Packers’ fans were great, from what I saw on TV. The Favre supporters were abundant, but not disruptive. The good start by Rodgers was a real confidence booster that the fans needed. Go Pack Go!

Its pre season folks, nothing to get too worried or excited about either way.
Rodgers will need to win the Monday night opener against the BIQUEENS and then the pressure will slowly start to come off.
I like his chances, his fundementals are a lot more sound that jump pass happy T Jack Off.

Rodgers can hold his own in this league, if he stays healthy…depth at that position might be a problem tho

He didn’t get injured!!!!! And even got nailed from the backside (stop that!). He threw some bullets that should have been caught, and for what its worth, james jones should have caught that ball. It could have been a little more on target, but anytime a recievers hands touch the ball it should be caught.
All in all a very good showing by the first team OFF. Defense has somwe things to work on but no worries! I am looking for the first teams to score 14 and hold the 9ers out of the end zone next week…

Yeah, great pocket presence by Rodgers, really read the blitzes well, his passes were right on, none were dump offs that lead to increased yards due to the Bungles great tackling, and none of the drops were due to the pass location or velocity. Oh, and suprise, suprise, the hometown fans cheered him on. No worries with the stellar performance of those two rookie backups. What a touching, feel good game.

Not that Brohm looked like he was even in the same area code as “ready to start”, but his first pass for a pick . . . I thought that play looked a whole lot like defensive interference. From the camera angles that I saw, it appeared that the receiver got pushed in the back before the ball got there. Not saying that he’d have been able to catch it. And especially not saying that it should have been thrown that late into that crowd of defenders in the first place. Just looked like a bad non-call to me. Anybody else?

Nothin’ gunna stop us now….
Who else thinks jordy nelson is the bomb? I am putting my money on him and tramon williams splitting PR duty. I didn’t see much of nelson on the first team offense but he looks like he will be a perfect fit for the way our offense rolls! Man I am exited as hell after last nights game.
I won’t be able to watch the game saturday, so florio make sure you get something up as soon as the game is over, cuz I will be mashin the refresh button here on PFT(as always).
I love brett favre, always will, but I am comin around to rodgers! Only thing to decide now is what color #12 jersey I want…

purpleguy, nice sarcasm. Obviously you see what you want to see to make up for what you know is going to be another disaster at QB with your team. Rodgers put the ball right on the money on all but 2 passes and one of them was caught because we actually have receivers on the team with heart and talent (Berrian and the other chumps wouldn’t even crack the top 4 WR’s in GB). Two other one’s were thrown away after he was pressured. I suppose you’re going to say that the INT was his fault as well and not the receiver’s for having it bounce off his hands?
I’ll take a QB with a rifle arm and accuracy all day long vs. a guy who sprays the ball all over the place like T-Joke and looks like he has deer in the headlights most of the time. The receivers are supposed to catch anything that hits their hands. They’re also used to catching passes from a guy named Favre who has a cannon of an arm and used it on a regular basis.
What I find interesting is that I’ve seen not one analyst from NFL network, to ESPN to the many sports websites that have said anything less than Rodgers did a very nice job.

Now now children the quote was I think his balls were pretty much on time. I know you Bretteney lovers would talk this way about him but despite all of your hate toward anything Ted he ain’t that way.
The Bretteney is dead in Green Bay Long live the Aaron.

Hey dude with the 28 letter ID, I probably think T-Jack stinks as much as you do, and I admit the pack is probably better, but you don’t see me jumping up and down the streets of Minneapolis praising T-Jack’s performance in the Seahawks pre-season game, which was just as good as Rogers’ performance Monday. I’m sick of reading about the frigging Cheeser QB situation every day, including praise for Monday’s game. The announcers said he has to do a better job of reading the blitz and maintaining pocket presence — didn’t you hear that? Are you telling me that high pass where his receiver laid out and lost his helmet was accurate? That was poor tackling by the Bungles and a great play by the receiver. Don’t listen to me or read the WI rags or AP feed posted on-line (written by the pack beat guy), go on nfl.com and listen to Jenning’s comments on how he doesn’t spread the ball around or throw with touch. Heaven forbid we all don’t drink the green and yellow koolaid, or else we have to listen to the age-old jealousy crack that every 4th grader pulls out when their argument stinks.
