On the same day that karma paid a visit to Panthers receiver Steve Smith in the form of a concussion only ten days after he cold-cocked teammate Ken Lucas, karma also made a visit to the Pacific Northwest, where disgruntled Seahawks receiver Bobby Engram, who sat out all of the offseason workouts in a quest for more coin, will now get to sit out up to two more months with a cracked shoulder.
The move means that Engram will be hard pressed to repeat his gaudy 2007 numbers: 94 catches, 1,147 yards, six touchdowns.
And it also means that, once the aging wideout makes it to the open market in March 2009, he’ll languish just like he did in 2007 before signing a two-year deal that he was griping about after only one season.
Meanwhile, the Seahawks young receivers need to step up. Deion Branch is still on the PUP list with a knee injury, and D.J. Hackett bolted for Carolina in the offseason.

My, karma is busy in the NFL today. And the Jets plays the Bengals tonight. So many opportunities, so little time.

Crack! That was the sound of Engram hitting the basement value-wise in my recent fantasy draft. By the way, the Bengals play the Pckers tonight, so lay off of the crack yourself.
All hail an unquestioned number one receiver in Nate “49 million” Burleson!

Hmm. Maybe Tim “Timmay!” Numbskull should have re-signed DJ Hackett after all.
“Now starting for your Seattle Seahawks at wide reciever, number 15, Seneca Wallace!”

Looks like Terry Glenn just may become a Seahawk, he’s available, and a sure handed veteren. And my Seahawks are just about out of options, unless they want to give up draft picks for disgruntled wr’s like Chad Johnson, or Boldin, but I dont see that happening with our tight salary cap, and hatred for giving up draft picks. Yep I see Glenn in the Seahawks near future.

Well, Seattle intended to run the ball more this year. Guess they have no choice now.

even calling it “Karma” reveling in an injry to someone is pretty low class
careful crosing the street. You never know when a truck may be carrying a load of “karma” for you.

We still have plenty of receivers. Engram is getting old and has been struggling with injuries the last few seasons, and was really most valuable as a go-to guy on 3rd down. Traditionally, Holmgren prefers to go the screen pass or the TE in similar situations, but we’ve never had reliable receivers in those spots in the past - so we ended up using Engram pretty extensively.
However, I’ve been watching these guys at camp. Along with the young receivers looking good (and an opportunity for Burleson to finally start and prove his worth), we now have quality receivers in the tailback and TE positions. You should see a different pass attack in 3rd down situations this season that really minimize any impact of Engram injuries or what-have-you. The Seahawks have been planning for a life without Engram for a while, this isn’t too serious of a setback.

At least we don’t have Hackett… you know he is going to get hurt sometime this season. The young receivers will do fine.
P.S. Hackett didn’t bolt. They let him take what he could get. He was on the market for a long while before anything happened. Zorn even passed.

I’m not so thrilled about losing Hackett. He’s a young guy that can catch and make plays. He’s not really a #1 (or even a #2) receiver, but he’s a quality WR that can bring the heat on 4-WR sets, etc. I think in a few years he will be a reliable, quality #2 or #3 receiver (like Jurevicious). He may never put up the stats like a Smith/Boldin/Moss type #1, but he’ll be a reliable threat on every down and produce pretty consistently.
Seattle didn’t let him go because of a lack of talent or injury problems. They let him go because they thought he wanted too much money, and they had enough depth with the young guys to develop some secret weapons for the future (there are more than 1 equally-talented WRs in Seattle’s cache).
