Jets receiver Laveranues Coles has yet to comment publicly on the team’s decision to dump quarterback Chad Pennington and his $6 million salary in favor of quarterback Brett Favre and his $12 million salary.
But at least one Jets fan who wasn’t sad to see Chad go has gotten an earful from Coles.
According to Dan Leberfeld of JetsConfidential.com, Favre threw a deep ball to Coles during practice. (The pass was incomplete due to pass interference by Darrelle Revis.) When Coles went to the sideline after the play to get a drink of water, a fan yelled, “Chad could never throw it that far.”
Coles’ response? “F–k you.”
Nice.
Maybe Coles thought the fan was Aaron Rodgers.

Awesome on so many levels. As a Dolphins fan, I’m pumped to hear that so many guys on the Jets think Pennington is a great guy and player. Gives me a glimmer of hope for this season, even if it is just a small one.

Stay classy, Jet fans.

Oh my God! You mean a grown adult actually- actually SWORE!? This is unheard of… And to think someone who plays arguably the most emotional sport ever established, had his emotions get the best of him.
This should be a non-issue. Coles and Pennington were close. An ignorant fan said something he/she knows VERY little about, and it touched Coles.

No Big deal.
He is just sticking up for his buddy, something any good guy would do. Coles has always been an emotional guy. There definitely will be a transition for him.
Coles also is a pro, and matching (exceeding??) some career highs will help to heal his wounds.

How would you like it if somebody came to your job and made fun of a friend of yours that just got fired?
There’s a big difference between what Coles did and some jackhole that gets piss drunk before a game, comes in and starts dropping f-bombs every other word in front of people and their kids after they paid $80 per person to attend a game.

Too bad, Chad would be missed in most NFL towns…He was a whipping boy in NY! I’ve seen him play alot. He won some games for the Jets…some of those games he almost won on his own..Played hurt, got booed…sad.
Chad and Bill Parcells might surprise a few Jets fans year. Would anyone be shocked if, Chad was able to read the Jet defense?

Not quite, cut the guy some slack. He’s practicing in August, it’s hot and his friend just got fired without cause. Some guy with a couple of beers in him makes wise crack and says F-off. Holy sheep dip Batman, lets take him out back and shoot him.
Who cares, Coles is a class act. He was Pennington’s lone voice of reason. The Jets got rid of a leader who wanted to be there to lead for a guy who doesn’t want to be there and put no thought into anything he’s done in the last month.
Farve acts like my wife when she went through her ‘life’ changes.
I’M BASICALLY A GOOD GUY AND I TELL SOMEBODY TO F-OFF ON A WEEKLY BASIS.

Coles will have a very good year this year because of Favre. But it must be hard to see one of your best friends being traded away. When the regular season starts all of this will be water under the bridge and the Jets will win more games then last year.

you can be loyal to both the Jets and a former teammate. if a friend of yours gets insulted, you will be insulted. No matter what has happened in recent history. Doesn’t change Coles’ loyalty to the Jets. He just likes Chad. I still like Chad, even if he is on the damn fins.

Coles needs to remove that giant stick from his butt and realize that business is business, and the team just improved itself. I can understand some disappointment as soon as it went down, but four days later he needs to calm down. I wonder if he loaths Favre for it. I’m sure he’ll come around when he’s able to catch those 60-yard throws for TDs.

As a PATRIOTS fan… I don’t really think what the fan said was THAT big of a deal. I understand where Coles is coming from, but at the same time, the fan probably thought he was complimenting the team in what he said, kind of in a “hey look we’re better” kind of way.
Meh, then again, this is the same fanbase that celebrated during a game when Pennington got hurt…

A non-issue.
Chad and Coles were extremely tight. Chad took a paycut in order to bring Coles back when he went to the Skins. They were friends and anyone of us would probably defend our friend if someone insulted them.

It’s going to be odd watching the New Jersey Jets learn the hard way that Favre is anything but an upgrade. It will also be a strange experience watching the classless Jets fans boo Favre when he throws his 20th INT by week 3.
Chad may not throw the ball as far as Favre, but he’s also never in his career thrown as poorly as Favre has the last 5 seasons. You can say whatever you want about stats, it just plain doesn’t matter when your QB is throwing a handful of game-killing INTs (capped by a playoff-killing INT) every season.
I don’t blame Coles. If I was him, I’d be searching for a new team, since the New Jersey Jets are going nowhere fast.

If Coles is still brooding by the first game of the regular season, the Jets will have a significant problem on their hands.
