A day after getting cleated while running in his socks, Browns receiver Braylon Edwards was released from the hospital.
Edwards wasn’t at practice on Sunday, and it might be wise to keep him away from the staph factory until the stitches are out and the wound is fully healed.
Then again, given that teammate Josh Cribbs used his own sweaty and grimy shirt to stop the bleeding of Braylon’s foot, the damage might already be done.
And while it’s humorous to poke fun about the whole staph infection thing when it comes to the Browns, we’ve heard from league sources that the Browns are deeply concerned about their inability to get control of the situation.
As well they should be. If they don’t figure this thing out, someone eventually will have an outcome far worse than his NFL career coming to an end.

Cleveland has some of the best hospitals and doctors in the US. I’m really shocked that they haven’t been able to figure this one out. I wonder if this is something the CDC will need to look into. Eventually, this will impact the Browns ability to attract free agents. If Cleveland and another team offer a player approximately the same cash, some players might think twice about going to Cleveland due to the risk involved.

USC use to have this problem and have basically erased. The use a special solvent to wipe down training tables and other common use areas like a whirlpool. The also do not use regular cloth towels they use paper and discard them.

I absolutely love the yellow journalism Florio.
Braylon will be fine. Try to hide your disdain for non-Pittsburgh AFC North teams a little better next time, eh?

The Browns have done everything possible at their training facilities including disinfecting the entire place and putting a special glaze over all surfaces. The Rumor is that it is the Cleveland Clinic that is the problem, not the Browns’ facility. The Clinic is a partner with the Team on several levels and the best hospital in the region, but all of the infections seem to arise from surgeries at the Clinic.
As a side note, I was at camp for the Browns on Sunday and Cribbs and Winslow played WR in with the #1’s with Braylon out. It was Stalworth-Winslow-Cribbs.

They need to clean out all facilities with staph killing cleaners. The Rams had 3-5 outbreaks in 2000 or so and have only had one case since then (Tye Hill).
The most ironic thing about his is that the Big Wig Doc at the Cleveland Clinic is considered one of the foremost experts on MRSA…I guess he earned his expertise through experience rather than study or prevention.

Why would the frickin government need to be brought in?
Let the goddamn Browns PAY for a private firm to clean the crap out of that place.

The Cleveland clinic was built on an old landfill. I dunno if that has anything to do with this.

Yeah, the Cleveland clinic has a problem with the community staph, too. In fact, it might be wiser for the Browns to send their players to University Hospital. Of course, they won’t because they’ve teamed up with the clinic.
