The San Francisco 49ers have announced that linebacker Takeo Spikes has signed with the team.
Terms weren’t disclosed. Our guess is that it’s a one-year deal. (But what the hell do we know?)
Spikes is a ten-year veteran. He was the 13th overall pick in the 1998 draft, selected by the Bengals.
He started 14 games for the Eagles in 2007, after being traded to Philly from Buffalo.

As a 49ers fan, im not happy. Replacing Moore with Spikes will be yet another move that blows up in Nolan’s face. Six months Nolan, you better enjoy it because you’ll be gone and if York has a brain in his head, he’ll bring back Mike Holmgren to be the new head coach. Then maybe, just maybe, us 49er fans can be happy once again.

I disagree with those who dislike this move, as an Eagles fan I can only say good things about TKO when he was with the Eagles last season. He gave his best each time he was out there.
With that being said he is getting up there in years, but that can only mean the niners didn’t dish out too much money. So in that case it was a pretty good move, younger guys can learn from Spikes experience.

Dan77733 signimg TKO will not blow up in our face OR hurt the team in any way. Alex Smith, Shaun Hill, and JT O’Sullivan will take car of that. I would like to see Holmgren take over the team in a year or two.

Let’s keep up the good behavior, NFL players. Just like Michael Phelps is currently performing to the highest standard doing in the pool, NFL players are doing the highest standard of staying out of trouble. Let’s keep it up though.

What do you know? Not much, considering you think it’s possible for a team to start the second half of a game with a 60-minute drive, and then attempt a ninja-edit and hoping nobody would notice. And I love how you will point out when ESPN or some other site does a ninja-edit without indicating that it was ever wrong, and then you go and do the exact thing you complain about.

To San Fran fans:
in all honesty this is a nothing signing. last year when we signed spikes, our local cable show of a roundtable of the print journalists had a guest via phone who was a buffalo journalist. our guys here were all about us signing spikes, but in one the best phone interviews i can remember, the buffalo guy tossed a whole lot of cold water on the thing.
the guy simply explained, that while spike’s time in buffalo was marred by injury, the fact is when he was healthy he was nothing but “just another guy on the field”. without quoting denny green he basically said he’s not who you think he is, and he’s not the guy anymore that he was in cincy.
of course our spastic immature media wrote the guy from bufalo off, but, the guy was actually right. when i was watching this i really paid attention to what that guy said because he just really made a good, quiet, sound argument. and he was right.
spikes is done. and just like the buffalo guy predicted, he was just another guy. that’s all. i’m not ragging on your team or anything, just giving you the straight story.

You know, 2 years ago I had to sit and listen to perennial douche bag Chris Mortenson trash the Bills about their trade of Spikes to the Eagles. Every chance he could, every show, he’d mock how they were just throwing talent away.
What is he saying now? Oh that’s right, he’s txting Favre nude photos of him and Donahoe.

The addition of Spikes is certainly not likely to suddenly turn the Niners LB corps into the beasts of the NFL. But, if he stays healthy, neither is it likely to be a disaster. While Spikes is no Seau, he brings some of the same qualities. The principal benefits would be his experience and ability to make reads which can only help the younger guys get to where they need to be on a given play.
But, yeah, until one of the Niners’ QBs steps up and starts playing at a much higher level (or they get someone else), Spikes isn’t going to make a measurable difference in W-L record.

I just read Dan77733 and I feel your pain but the sad truth is that the 49ers haven’t been competitive since the salary cap was enforced. Eddie’s deep pockets kept the club thick with hall of fame players. Now your like the rest of us and have to earn it the old fashioned way.

Dan Snyder:
Like your namesake, you fail to realize that a big name 12 year veteran LB is OLD! Nice guy, reportedly great in the locker room, but he had no sacks and no interceptions in 14 games. I wish him well, but I’m guessing he’ll continue to be the oldest player in the league without a playoff appearance.
