Though quarterback Brett Favre surely would prefer to never talk publicly again about the events that brought him from Green Bay to retirement to New York (then again, maybe he likes it), it’s kind of difficult to tell the New York media what they can and can’t ask him about.
And so the rehashing of Favre’s retirement, unretirement, and eventual trade to the Jets came up when he spoke to the media after practice on Saturday.
Some of his comments make us still wonder whether he truly thinks he’s doing the right thing.
“I hope at the end of the season, I really do, that I feel like I made the right decision,” Favre said. “I hope the Jets fans and the people throughout the NFL world feel like I made the right decision. At this point, I think it was the right decision.”
It sounds to us like Favre will constantly be asking himself whether he made the right decision. It would make much more sense to us if he were to accept the fact that the decision has been made, and to move forward without talking about it.
Even if he’s asked about it. Every day.

Farve looked so excited at the Jets press conference - not.
He looked like a guy who just found out his blind date was a fat chick.
“Happy? uh, sure. If you turn the lights down I’ll put the shirt on and kiss her.”
NYC will fry him at the sign of the first tear.
“Crying? Are you crying? New Yorkers don’t cry - they get even.”
I can say that, I’m originally from Brooklyn.

Given the ugly divorce between Favre and the Packers, I can understand why he’s having some doubts. It’s one of those decisions that only hindsight will settle for him as being the right or wrong one.

Love this site and check it out multiple times per day, but I must say that, as a Jets fan, it appears you have a raging anti-Jets bias. Every article has negative undertones. Why???

He went from the NFC Championship game, to a 4-12 team. He deserves to have a second guess about the move.

Enjoy it, BertFarve! This is what you wanted! Are you still making like $750,000 per game? Why not take a paycut so the Jets can afford to bring in some help for you? You just wanna play, right?

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Favre does a Petrino at some point in the season. He already is questioning his decision. (I can’t believe I’m still hitting the Favre pipe–I swore I would make no more Favre comments!)

oh he’ll quit before the season is out. when the going gets a little tough he’ll realize he just doesn’t have to do this. he really doesn’t want to be there. he backed himself into this corner. he has to play otherwise he proves the packers brass right. that’s the only reason he’s there. and don’t count out the old phantom injury appearing in the first 3rd of the season when they’re hovering around .500. you can just tell, it’s not what he wants.

Hey Mr. Mike,
I think that sometimes Brett is too honest for his own good. The more he talks about stuff, the more he gets asked about it. McNabb here in Philly is the same way. It leads to never-ending controversy at times.
Brett won’t know for a while if he made a good call. And you are right on when you say that he’ll be “asked about it… every day”. Maybe he should tell a few jokes, or change the subject or something,
The New York press can be very intense. They’ll want to get daily and hourly updates if they can get it on a hot subject like Favre….. Can we blame them? The hottest story of this NFL summer just dropped in their laps.

I honestly believe that Favre never thought for a second that he wouldn’t be the starting quarterback in Green Bay this season. He and Bus Cook thought that if they bluffed and acted like he wanted to play elsewhere, Green Bay would never allow it. Kudos to Green Bay’s management for calling his bluff and ending this nonsense in Wisconsin. Let another team deal with his wishy-washiness.

Doesn’t this lend credence to what McCarthy said? That all along, he ( McCarthy ) just never was totally convinced that Brett REALLY wanted to play again? With everything it involved?

Gotta love that intangible locker room leadership and confidence, setting the tone for the rest of the Jets. That’s gotta be making MangIdiot feel nice and secure about his football career that hangs in the balance with how the Jets do this season.

Aw, c’mon, nitpicking a bit, aren’t you? It is a perfectly reasonable feeling to have and an honest answer. Brett was probably feeling sore–not having put on pads or really thrown a serious pass since January–and a bit overwhelmed at everything new he is encountering. Why wouldn’t he be wondering how it will turn out for him?
And remember, he had the benefit of seeing that Reggie White’s return with Carolina was not particularly successful. He does not want to feel at the end of the season like he should never have come back, or to have people say that about him.
Jeez, the media kept asking him when he would retire. He retired, then the media asked if and when he was coming back. He comes back and now they are asking if he wants to leave again… Brutha! (insert rolling eyes smiley here)

jeea, the guy was just jesting a bit, and you and ESPN are running with “he is not sure”. Give me a break. You have an athelete that talks like a human being in his press conference, not like some PR robot, and you guys jump all over him for that. Now you reporters know why the answers of the questions from most atheletes always suck.

I don’t think this is a sign of second-guessing, just stupidity. (Stupidity never stopped a footballer from being great… not sure it ever helped much either…)
Like him saying at the announcement that he was sent, read, and knew everything there was to know about the Jets and then admitting that he had no idea they were 4-12 last year until he showed up.
I think it’s cute, he’s growing on me.

I’m not sure it’s second guessing or just stupidity. (And stupidity doesn’t necessarily hurt a footballer; don’t think it helps though either…) Like Favre commenting at the announcement that he received, read, and knows everything about the Jets and then admitting that he had know idea they went 4-12 last year until he showed up in camp.
It’s kind of cute.
