Multiple sources tell us that Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has parted ways with agent Mike Sullivan of Octagon.
He has yet to hire a new agent, as we understand the situation currently.
We’re assuming that Rodgers filed the appropriate paperwork to terminate the relationship before the Brett Favre saga was finally resolved. Given the NFLPA’s five-day waiting period that prevents a new agent from signing Rodgers, there’s a chance that Rodgers might change his mind, now that Favre is out of Green Bay.
Then again, Rodgers still might be smarting about a rookie contract with so much money tied to actually playing. Rodgers is making only $680,000 in 2008, but can trigger escalators that will bump up his pay in 2009, the final year of his contract. He has lost millions by sitting behind Favre for three seasons.
It’s also possible that Rodgers directed Sullivan to get a new contract once Rodgers became the starter, and that Rodgers wasn’t happy with the progress.
Or maybe Rodgers noticed that Sullivan was one of the people chanting “Bring Brett Back” at practice on Tuesday. (We’re kidding.)
If Rodgers doesn’t stay with Octagon, look for him to possibly consider David Dunn of Athletes First. It’s also likely that Tom Condon of CAA will make a run at Rodgers.

He’s got the Packers by the balls now! I would hope he goes somewhat easy on them, as they did crucify Jesus Christ in order to give him a chance.

I’m sorry, what’s unfair about Rodgers’ situation? He HASN’T PLAYED in, what, 3 years? Why should he be raking in millions? He got a signing bonus and he’s been paid to sit on the bench. If he plays well this season, he’ll earn a nice fat contract. If not, bye-bye. This seems perfectly fair to me.
I don’t understand the obsession on this site with the thinking that fair is equivalent to all players making a truckload of money whether it’s earned or not. Why is it GOOD that Larry Johnson signed a big deal and then got hurt? Why would it be good for Rodgers to get loads of money for doing nothing?

‘When they say it is NOT about money - it ALWAYS is about money!’
I’m not too good at math, but how much difference is $12 million MINUS $680,000 for you to pay your #1 QB this year?

If Rodgers has a year that makes it look like he is the Packer’s QB of the future, I’m sure they will give him a fair contract extension. I’m sure that played into wanting him to lead the team this year.
While many say TT is stingy because he has piled up CAP money, he has built a winning team by not throwing money at free agents because they are big names, and locking up solid performers on the Packers before they hit free agency. The 2nd point is where the extra CAP money comes in.
To TT’s credit, when he does spend money, his free agent signings are solid contributers - Woodson and Picket for example.

I like when people refer to Favre “sucking”. As a Bears fan, I hope I’m lucky enough to see a quarterback “suck” like he did for years to come. You want a quarterback who sucked? I’ll give you Rick Mirer’s number. If you ever compare a sure-fire Hall-of-Famer to sucky quarterbacks again, I’ll sick Cade McClown on you.

Oh yeah, Old School, Thompson has great free agent pick-ups… Marquand Manuel and Adrien Klemm, for example. He’s no better than Sherman was, although Sherman got bigger names and gave them more money (trade for often-head-injured Terry Glenn, Joe Johnson, signing of Cletidius Hunt). Thompson doesn’t go after free agents because he doesn’t want to be criticized and scrutinized when they don’t perform because they got the money. He only got Woodson and Pickett because he was trying to build a solid defense. What did he ever do to help Favre out? Oh, he admittedly made a mistake in not up-ing his offer for Ahman Green (no one could’ve predicted that he would’ve gotten hurt in Texas). He made Favre work with rookie receivers (Jones, Jennings, Martin), however good they turned out to be, and very average play at the tight end position. Thompson FAILED Favre, Favre didn’t fail as a quarterback for the Packers.

Totally agree Old School. I think TT’s lack of throwing money at overpriced free agents keeps the locker room happy. What would Barnett or Hawk think if we would have brought in Briggs for a max contract? Or if we brought in Faneca for a max deal, Clifton and Tauscher would probably want a raise. Time and time again you see teams pay max money to free agents, and then the guys with similar talent that have been on the team for awhile feel underpaid and unappreciated, and want out. Guys on the Packers know that if they perform well for the team they will be taken care of, and its one of the main reasons that a tiny-market team like Green Bay can compete with your Jerry Jones’es of the league. I think some people don’t realize just how small of a town GB is, with about 100K population.

So now that the Bozo Brothers (Ted and Mike) have shuffled Favre out of town by saying that Rodgers was better and the starter and all that crap, what’s the Bozos gonna do? If they say that he hasn’t started a game ever and does not deserve any contract changes until he does, then the Bozos look like idiots. Based on how they handled Favre, they should be giving Rodgers the same exact contract of 12 million, because they already said he was a better QB.

Drink a bit more kool-aid fav-rah.
“Thompson only got Woodson and Pickett because he was trying to build a solid defense” - and? That doesn’t reduce the value they’ve brought to the team.
Who could have predicted Ahman Green getting hurt? I could have and half the NFL did as well. He was a 30+ year old RB coming off an injury, not a big surprise what happened to him last year. Once again, Thompson didn’t overpay for damaged goods.
Thompson has been excellent at finding diamonds in the rough, in both the draft(Jennings, Jones, etc.) and in free agency(Grant) - all of those on the offensive side of the ball, mind you. You know, just like his old boss, Ron Wolf. And I’m sure your going to point out Justin Harrell - but remember Wolf’s history on number 1 picks isn’t glorious either.
If you are a Packer fan, get on board - otherwise, follow the Diva to New York.
The real Packer fans don’t need you.

Don’t forget Marquand Manuel’s solid contribution during his stint in Green Bay. Not all Thompson’s FA picks have been “solid contributors” by any stretch.

The decision to “move forward” without Brett Favre has put the entire Packer organization under extreme pressure and scrutiny.
1. Aaron Rodgers - Don’t you dare get hurt this year. No matter what the circumstances… if Aaron goes down the entire world is going to be saying, “I told you so.”
2. Mike McCarthy - IMO is just a puppet. He can’t speak publicly worth a damn, and the jury is still out as to whether or not he can actually coach. He now has his first real test as a head coach, and we’ll see very soon if McCarthy can persevere without having Brett Favre at the wheel.
3. Ted Thompson - This man single handily destroyed the definition of loyality and commitment. So many haters have tried to paint Favre as someone who is selfish, and is only concerned with himself. Well I for one don’t believe that for a second. You don’t call someone who gives your team sixteen plus years of hard work and dedication selfish.
People say that it’s not personal (BS), and the last ditch ‘bailout’ term that always seems echo when things get ugly is that it’s “a business.”
Try telling that to all those who stood shoulder to shoulder with Brett Favre every Sunday.
From the top down all eyes, and all the pressure is and will be on Green Bay this year… and for all the wrong reasons.

” from fav-rahOh yeah, Old School, Thompson has great free agent pick-ups… Marquand Manuel and Adrien Klemm, for example.”
I didn’t say TT didn’t blow a few. Sherman left him a team full of holes.
“Thompson doesn’t go after free agents because he doesn’t want to be criticized and scrutinized when they don’t perform because they got the money.”
If tou can read TT’s mind you’re wasting your time on this board. The rest of us took his word that he has followed his philospphy of builing young and through the draft.
“He only got Woodson and Pickett because he was trying to build a solid defense. What did he ever do to help Favre out?”
I think it’s a big help to the QB when the defense keeps getting rthe ball back without the opponent scoring.
“Oh, he admittedly made a mistake in not up-ing his offer for Ahman Green (no one could’ve predicted that he would’ve gotten hurt in Texas).”
There were plenty of questions raised anout Green’s comeback from surgery to begin with. TT wasn’t risking big bucks on damaged goods especially at Green’s age, and given the pounding he took for years with his running style.
“He made Favre work with rookie receivers (Jones, Jennings, Martin), however good they turned out to be, and very average play at the tight end position. Thompson FAILED Favre,”
So Jones, Jennings, and Martin were just lucky picks? Some people laughed when Jennings was drafted. They aren’t laughing anymore. Brett is back with tight end Bubba Franks, who by the way, was let go because he was average.
“Favre didn’t fail as a quarterback for the Packers.”
You’re right, but I didn’t say he failed as a QB. Where he failed was in not being able to get over himself (my feelings were hurt) and not expressing a 100% commitment to Coach McCarthy. If he had gotten it right, he’d be in Green Bay right now. McCarthy said he can’t allow anybody who’s not 100% in his locker room. ( There’s a message to the next wannabe diva.)
My opinion is that I’d be less than confident with Favre as my QB after seeing his performace in the 2 frigid games in Chicago and against the Giants.Eli Manning looked and played like he didn’t even know how cold it was.
