In the end, quarterback Chad Pennington wasn’t unemployed for long.
Jay Glazer of FOX reports that Pennington has agreed to terms with the Dolphins on a two-year deal.
Pennington, who was drafted by Fins V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells when Parcells was the G.M. of the Jets in 2000, becomes an instant candidate for the starting quarterback job in Miami.
And, ironically, Pennington will get a crack at the team that dumped him in Week One of the regular season, when the Jets travel to Miami.

So the Jets brass were clearly not as afraid of Pennington as the Packer brass were of Brett Favre. Interesting!

Wooohooooo! A real QB lands in Miami.
Goodbye McCown!
This guy can bring Beck and Henne along with his intelligence and experience.
Glad McCown will be gone - he has never won and apparently lacks brain matter since he almost cut his finger off with a chainsaw…

It’s a good move, period. McCown = stop-gap while Henne/Beck develop; Pennington > McCown.

that would be hilarious if Pennington ends up starting and the Dolphins knock off the Jets. I think the NY media would have a meltdown.

I would LOVE that.
Let’s see if Chad can improve upon the success former Jet QBs have in Miami. Lucas played well against Miami in key games, and played really poorly when he was a Dolphin.
I want to see Henne out perform them all in preseason.

Week 1 of the new season, and I find myself pulling for the Dolphins for the first time in my life! It’s gonna’ be a strange season!
Of course after knocking off the Jets in week 1, and whenever the second time they play is, I hope the Dolphins lose their other 14 games.
Favre looked totally freaked out holding up the Jets jersey at his press conference. I hope he has a really crappy year.

Well, good for him. I hope the Dolphins do well this year. I like Chad Pennington, and Chad Henne is from 3 blocks over from where I live… thats a reason to like him right?

This just gets better and better - now we’ve got all the ingredients to see this backfire right in MangIdiot’s face.
Imagine if the Jets continue to wallow in mediocrity after spending $112 million and giving up a draft pick, only to see the guy they abandoned experience success within the division. MangIdiot’s really going to be feeling the heat to salvage his career now!

Good luck, Chad. You’re a class act. Sorry you were made a pawn in this whole reshuffling.

Why sign a contract so quick? Only place he could start.
He is a good bridge type QB very DeBerg-ish. Plus I think Hene can play eventually.

MacD says: So the Jets brass were clearly not as afraid of Pennington as the Packer brass were of Brett Favre. Interesting!
After spending $100 million in free agency the Jets weren’t exactly in a position to add a $12 million QB without cutting Pennington.
itsacurse says: all the ingredients are there, joesixpack. so what happens when the jets win 27-10?
Um, are you expecting a tickertape parade because the Jets spent $112 million in the offseason to beat a 1-15 team? The Jets are supposed to win. If they do no one will bat an eyelash, if they lose MangIdiot’s career starts unravelling.
Is that your point, or did you have a different point? Try to make things a little more clear in the future.

Pennington plaued all 16 games in 06, and was NFL Comeback Player of the Year.
I’m going to hate watching our D go thru Mia swiss cheese oline. Sorry Chad - you deserve better than two crappy teams 2 years in a row.

yankeemofo says: before everyone gets all excited, who will chad be throwing the ball to, the punter’s kid??
I thought they used a 1st round pick on a WR - the same year they bypassed using that pick on Brady Quinn to take Beck, which gave them their QB of the future AND a WR.
How’s that working out for them?
